Heya--since Miss Pea wondered how I was doing, and I obey her in all things...here's what's going on:
Blood sugar is slowly receeding--the oral meds will likely take a few weeks to really kick in but I am obeying the new diet as scrupulously as possible and it is working--blood sugar now routinely half what it was just a couple of weeks ago but still about 20-30 pts too high--I am getting there.
The real bitch is that many of the foods great for someone who also has coronary artery disease and has had a couple of mild MIs are terrible for diabetes--take for example pretzels. A great heart healthy snack--mongo carbs per serving. On the other side, I can eat all the meat, gravy, and stuff like that I want as a diabetic but my arteries will wind up looking like a garden hose with sand caked in it. Then, there are the kidney stones...at least THEY seem gone.
I am working out at least 5 times a week on our new treadmill and feeling much healthier than I have in a long time.
Do I miss just eating everything I want w/o thinking about it--yup, sure do. But, as a wise person once told me, there is no ice cream cone or double cheeseburger worth more than seeing your baby grow up.
Side note: I did stray this past weekend at my parents' house in Tampa--there for my bro's 44th birthday with Buffette and my stepdad makes the world's greatest frozen margaritas. I thought--this is where I draw the line, I'm having one. In fact, that one was so good...anyway, two hours later I tested my blood and assuming I hit my own finger...130. Very low reading for me.
My book called "Buff's Margarita Diet" will be at Barnes and Noble soon...

Re: Health update
Let me know how that works out for you, seriously. I'm hitting the a similar problem with keeping the newly diabetic S.O. fed. I have no freaking idea how to solve it, he's nutrition clueless (still hasn't gone to a nutritionist. I may kill him before the diabetes/coronary issues do) and I'm concerned that I'm probably doing all the wrong things for one that are the right thing for the other.Buffacuse wrote:Heya--since Miss Pea wondered how I was doing, and I obey her in all things...here's what's going on:

Glad to hear you're hanging in there. Pass me one of those margaritas.
