I've heard of the issue, but I haven't heard the expression "Green Dam". My attempt to reason it out was leaning toward building nuclear power plants, as an alternative to mega-projects like the Three Gorges Dam. But going with that answer would presuppose that the Chinese government acknowledged that there was environmental damage from that project.

My sweet Margaret used to watch the 'Dark Shadows' soap, which was set in what is now Maine, but when they had a storyline which involved (I think) 'this is how it all started' they were very careful to describe the story as taking place in Massachusetts.

"Portland, Maine" wouldn't have been wrong in 1798, since that region had been known as Maine since the 1600s. Maine was part of Massachusetts until 1820, but it was still called Maine. Kind of like today it would still be accurate to refer to "Basse-Terre, Guadeloupe," while acknowledging that Basse-Terre is in France. It's reasonable to say that you're in Lahaina, Maui, without contradicting that you're also in Hawaii, and so on.

Ellery Queen did pretty well, considering that he didn't have access to Wikipedia. But he was no Mark Trail.
