<sigh> When I saw the categories, I was looking forward to a question about one of the LOTR movies. Instead, they ask about a movie that never got made. Is that supposed to be common knowledge among Tolkien fans? Or among Beatles fans?

Such a movie would have been a farce with any of those bands. Good for JRRT for rejecting the idea!

This story was making the rounds on the blogs last year, right about the time that this episode would have taped.

On what blogs? Those that have wide enough exposure to make this a question #6 unrandomized (which translates to a $2,000 question, by the traditional reckoning)?

Digg and Fark had it in November, and the site they quoted (blastr) was quoting a nearly-10-year-old item from People.com.

The Gawker family of sites had it by January, but that's obviously too late for this taping. (Do we know what the taping date was?)

I'm not sure this is something that would be known to non-Tolkien fanatics (of which I am one). [NOTE: after seeing other responses in this thread I see that this is something that might have been "current knowledge"].

Wow, a stack that I was doing fairly well with.
