Well, it looks like Mark Trail won't be around to piss me off much longer.

In yesterday's strip the Bad Guy shot Mark Trail: he's pretty skillful, shooting accurately from one moving boat to another, using a handgun; I would have a hard time making that shot. I was concerned for a moment that maybe they were trying for some real drama, and the Bad Guy might have shot himself rather than be taken alive, or at least punched out, by Mark, but you can see in the last panel that Mark has been shot, apparently fatally-- at least four of his hairs are out of place, and a living Mark Trail would never let that happen. http://www.chron.com/apps/comics/showCo ... Today's strip confirms that Mark's a goner: http://www.chron.com/apps/comics/showCo ... Mark_Trail He's obviously gone to sleep with the fishies, or at least, what's left of him will sleep with the fishies (note that the gulls are already swooping in to feed on his dying flesh).

Horsefeathers. Mark hasn't punched me out yet. He can't cash in his chips until he has had at least one final chance to use his Fists of Doom. You just watch: he'll probably slip out of the boat and swim through the surf, no doubt catching me in my speeding speedboat in time to punch my lights out. Probably after punching a hole in the hull of my boat. Yes indeed, ourlittle pas de deux has not yet run out its string.

For some reason when I followed a link to The Comics Crudmedgon I thought of WG.

The comment for 2/15 on Mark Trail

It appears that Mark has been shot directly in the head, and the bullet has struck with such force that it’s knocked a few hairs out of place. He’s really going to do some serious punching, once he shakes that off.

Maybe this is a seque to a new plot line where Mark comes back as a zombie.

Being the eternal optimist that I am, I would like to think that, as the gulls tear as his living flesh, the release of bodily fluids has caused him to slide down and under the thwarts.

The pessimist in me worries that he might wash ashore on some jungle island where he will be restored by natives, and will come back as the new Ghost Who Walks, leaving skull marks on people's jaws when he punches them. Maybe dog skulls (we haven't seen Andy for a while).

You must be truly optimistic to post the same thing three times!

Well, you see, that's how you can be sure that Mark is still alive, despite wintergreen's wishful thinking. Mark was so shocked by the bad guy's unsportsmanlike use of a firearm that he decided playing dead was the only reasonable option and he crawled under the thwarts to get the most cover possible.

But he'll be back to get some two-fisted revenge on the bad guy before you know it!
