Ingrid Vogelfanger
Denver, CO
Flight attendant
Ingrid starts with the $100K question in Classic Millionaire. She has no lifelines remaining. She did engage in some rethinking about the use of her lifelines on yesterday's show. She has $40,600 in her bank.
CLASSIC MILLIONAIRE
$100K -
According to an annual report by DuPont, what was the most popular color of new cars sold in America for the third straight year in 2009?
A - silver
B - blue
C - red
D - white
Ingrid's mother always drove a white car, and most of the cars were white. Now she's not sure. Any answer she gave would be a complete guess so she's going to walk away.
Answer: D (white)
Value: $100,000
Bank: $40,600 (final total)

This was a radio trivia Q about a million years ago (OK, about 20), and it was white then. I wonder if it's been white the whole time, not just the past three years.

I wonder what she would have done differently.

This is a tough one, possibly the hardest $100K questions we've seen this season. In the local area (not the city where I live but the region of the city) it seems like red is the most popular color (or at least it is for Prii). But since I still have a lifeline, I think I'll use it and JTQ.

I dunno, but elwing suggested that when fleet sales were included, that might push the total of white cars purchased higher. If so, then it may be that white has been the top color for more than just the past three years.

Huh. I'm a big car aficionado, and I was SURE it was silver. I would've gone with that and dropped about fifteen grand, if I had Ingrid's bank. I guess you learn something new every day.

The problem -- and one could see it coming, sort of, half a mile away or so -- is that popular tones of gray can come pretty close to silver, whereas the various off-whites heading down to creamy tones are going to be classed as white. I wouldn't recommend looking for a light gray or silver car in a Montreal mall parking lot....
Gray and silver add to 32%; white is 21%.
