Amidst all the decisions to be made, it's likely that the one for music will be the easiest, for all that it took a trip to a planning event to make it. GW and BD went to one of those several months ago, more to scope out the possibilities than to use one of the attending vendors. This was back when the plans still included Newport RI as the wedding site (more on that another time). This particular event was over the border north into New Hampshire, and we figured that vendor travel time and distance would be too great for the trek to Rhode Island.
Among the vendors was a familiar name, one we've seen at least once a week during trips to the grocery store. It was a DJ service with its main office barely three miles from our house. We've passed by it for as long as we've lived here, and seen the home/office grow over the years from a simple ranch into a two-story garrison with a large addition to one side. It just never registered that he was someone we could work with. We figured he was just local, and RI was too far. Turns out he and his associates cover all of New England and even into New York and New Jersey. His rates are reasonable, his playlist lengthy and having him so close to home will make any advance special requests easy to arrange. We know where he lives, so to speak.
