Henry Smith
Norton, OH
Worker at a Tyson's plant

Today's contestant has a huge cheering section but they aren't in the studio. Thanks to Tyson's Anytizers there's a live satellite feed from Norton, OH (screen shows workers in a bar/restaurant, all wearing Tyson T-shirts). BAM has never done this before. Henry's sister Michelle, niece Jacqueline, his grandmother, his brother Charlie, and some other friends.

Meredith tells him that he only gets $5,000. She also tells him that Daniel Day Lewis' character in There Will Be Blood was named Daniel.

Number one my guess was right, but if I were in this dude's shoes, I don't know if I would've gone with my gut.

I knew where the Spanish Steps were thanks to watching the Travel Channel haha

Number three I knew cold

But number four I would've had to jump as well...

Also, this was the guy who they did that Tyson Anytizer thing with right? They had live video feed of his family back in his hometown cheering for him? Nice idea in concept, but I think it'd take a ton of time & effort to put all that together for one contestant, only to have him leave after 4 questions. But then again, maybe Tyson is making it worth it for TPTB? They don't have any 'in-show' sponsors that I can remember of this season-- AT&T with PAF (RIP), Skype for ATE-- so maybe this is their way of getting a sponsor? I don't know...

Is this a sign of the decline of unions in America? Not only the contestant, but 41% of the audience confuse the Teamsters with the United Steelworkers?

Yep, for a new gimmick, it didn't work out well, at all. Henry uses all three of his lifelines and can only answer one question. :|

Tyson must have paid for the promotion; not only did they have that big banner hanging in the bar, but there was a quick "sponsored by" announcement during one of the commercial breaks. So, while all the other contestants had to keep a vow of silence, even with their immediate families, all of Henry's family got to watch it live without even making the trip to NYC. Inconsistency, thy name is TPTB.

Seems like an awful lot of trouble to go through - why not a Skype feed rather than satellite, and why do this at all?

Off to a rocky start. This doesn't bode well.

I'd have used ATA on this one hoping it would produce a good result. After all the hoopla, the contestant didn't do very well. I wonder if we'll see this live feed gimmick again.

I bet Marley was grumbling throughout this guy's run. Would YOU let your family/friends wear T shirts with a corporate logo on them just so they could be on TV? And did they get to keep the shirts?

On to the stack:

1. easy for me. My grandpa was a Teamster-he drove a truck for a grocery chain (Krogers) in the Detroit area. He's even got a hat that says "Teamsters Retiree" on it.

2. never heard of the Spanish Steps?? I guess he's either (a) never been to Europe or (b) never read "Angels & Demons" which is set in Rome).

The actor Q I would need ATA or JTQ. No clue.
I'm just a game show nerd.

I'm stunned it was that close. I thought Teamsters=Truckers was ingrained in the national consciousness.

I don't know if you read the previous comments in the thread to see my thoughts, Kazoo, or if you'll read the thread again to see this one. But since you asked...

What I commented on was the inconsistency: so many other contestants comment about having to keep their results secret, even from immediate family members, while Henry got his big crowd watching the taping live. As for having my family/friends watch the show under an advertising banner, I don't care about that. Heck, let Tyson bring back the AOL ATA and the Million Dollar Buddy game; I'd love that!

If I ever did get The Call, I hope the event would be momentous enough in Bored history to have many BBs come watch me live, at the studio. OTOH, a remote hook-up would be nice for MarleysMom, who used to travel with me to NYC to audition and watch live tapings, but who's no longer physically capable of making the trip. But on the gripping hand, while that story might be somewhat appealing, showing MarleysMom on TV wouldn't make a light, energetic, uplifting image, so I suspect TPTB would be far too uncomfortable to air it.
