I watched.

The interview quote of the night was as follows:

"We have the opportunity to modern our image and bring it into this century." (That's from memory and, thus, perhaps not 100 percent accurate, although I am certain that "modern" was the verb.)

Alas, I don't know the state of the blonde who said it. I was sort of hoping it came from Miss South Carolina, just because.

The host was Mark Steines, the guy who did AOL Gold Rush and Entertainment Tonight. Somehow, that seemed appropriate.

In an obvious effort to "modern" the show, some parts of the presentation and eliminations were changed. Toward the end, I almost expected them to flash a phone number, so viewers could text-message their votes for a mere $.99 per call.

TLC had a show about modernizing Miss America. It seems they took all 52 of them and had them in a house for some time and did all of these challenges and they got judged and coached by people. I didn't get to see any of it, just saw the promos.

Someone won some money. I think it was 10K. I think it went to the one who was most modernized or something.

It was an attempt to attract the reality show viewers. BD watched, because she lived on the same floor as Miss RI in college. BD agreed with the mostly negative comments about her. "Nice girl, but no personality" was one. Others occurred when she forgot the name of her dress designer.

I didn't watch. I don't feel like I missed anything.

I honestly don't remember Miss Michigan. She dint stand out at all.

I do remember both the runners up.

Miss Utah, (as the viewers vote,) was the "Sanjaya Vote" as she was by far the most boring, unenthusiastic contestant there. She treated the whole pageant as if it were a big joke.

There were 36 others who should have had a shot in her stead.

So she's the only contestant with a realistic perspective. Maybe she's the only one with some intelligence.

Hey if you missed it, they're replaying it again right now. It was also on again last night from 10-12AM. And who knows how many times it might be on today?You should have plenty of opportunities to watch.





I can tell you this, the swim suits are much skimpier than in the past and almost all of the evening gowns have very plunging necklines. Kayne designed one of them, but I forget which one. It was pretty though.

If that were true, then she shouldn't have been there in the first place. If you are going to do something, then do it wholeheartedly. She showed disrespect for the rest of the ladies who tried their hardest.

I mean, come on. After the various pageants she had to go through to get in the final, " I don't know how to pose for a picture"????

As I recall, Miss Utah is Army National Guard, and had recently served on active duty.

I saw the very end, and then the state intros on the re-broadcast. They had some clever writers.

"Home of people who refuse to pronounce the letter R, I'm _______, Miss Massachusetts."

"Home of the highest per capita birth rate, as long as the Osmonds never move, I'm ________, Miss Utah."

"We moved up our Presidential Primary this year, but n one really paid attention, I'm _________, Miss Wyoming."

There were several others that were pretty darn funny.

I watched the Reality CHeck shows, and the pageant. Came away from teh pageant thinking:

1. The girls took the call for change to heart, and did what was asked of them, for the most part, and for the most part, that was a good thing.

2. What the MAPTB should have done was send the JUDGES to Reality Check. Someone obviously forgot to tell them the idea was to modernize the pageant.

3. No way Ms. Michigan should have been the "new" Miss America. Her evening gown looked like she borrowed it from a Vegas showgirl. An off-the-strip Vegas showgirl.

4. The production sucked. THe format sucked. Struck me very much like a high school talent/beuaty competition.

I liked him. I don't watch UB, but he was quite a hoot.

In the words of one of the 'experts' panel, at the start they all looked like a bunch of senators' wives. They got hair and makeup makeovers, more modern haircuts, etc. and learned how to move more 'red carpet' or runway than pageanty. It was remarkable how resistant some of them were, especially early on. It's like teasing a spraying one's hair into submission was genetically incoded.

He plays a flaming homosexual, Marc, on "Ugly Betty." His character is sort of evil, but has these moments that make him really nuanced. He shows a lot of empathy for Betty's nephew, Justin, who will probably end up gay and most recently he tried to get his friend Amanda to do the right thing in revealing evidence that would acquite somebody in a murder investigation.

(Urie has done some theatre locally at South Coast Rep. Most recently he was Horatio in Hamlet.)

You should try watching "Ugly Betty." I didn't watch the show until I bought the box set for Maddie for her birthday and I am amazed at how good the show is. The girls watch episodes over and over again. Yesterday they were watching an episode where a character dies. I've seen the episode four time, at least, yet I still started crying, as did Maddie. (Emma and Jeff mocked us.)

That's the one. I'd probably like the show if I ever managed to catch it.

Did any of the 'girls' talk about it during the pageant?

Clinton Kelly was in the telecast, and was a stylist on Reality Check. The girls mentioned, here and there, about the 'new' Miss America, but I don't remember in direct reference by the girls, to the show. They did introduce the celebrity panel from the Reality Check show - they were in the audience for the pageant.
