Since its scientific name is Hylopetes winstoni, Winston sounds like an appropriate name! :)

A female flying squirrel would be Amelia. I might name a male flying squirrel Flash, after Flash Gordon.

Let's see what else comes up....

Why would a flying squirrel be named anything but Rocky or Rocket J. if you are picky?

So why are you asking, beast?

Has ES had a distant cousin arrive for a visit? If so, why not just read the name in his passport?

Does Mike have an English cousin named Jerome?
BBC radio host turns air blue with four-letter faux pas

A VETERAN BBC radio host has committed the ultimate broadcaster's faux pas after he accidentally uttered the C-word - instead of a minister's surname.

James Naughtie committed the Monday morning error as he introduced a guest on Radio 4's highbrow current affairs show Today.

He was supposed to say: “First up after the news we will be talking to Jeremy Hunt, the Culture Secretary.”

Instead, Mr Naughtie perpetrated a very unfortunate Spoonerism - swapping around the initial letters of two of the words.

Naughtie would be a good name for a flying squirrel

There are actually three Sumatran flying squirrels. They are brothers and they travel the country with their high wire act. A pretty kooky bunch but, like most circus folk, with hearts of gold. Their names are Joe, Art and Max.

What you've got there looks like Art.....

Ahem! I am not Sumatran. I am a red blooded American squirrel from Frostbite Falls of course and I believe that name is taken.

Except no substitute!

I say 'Bob.' It's one of those names that just oozes 'nice'-- no matter what 'Bob' does, no matter how obnoxious 'Bob' can be, you just can't stay mad. Bob Hope, Bob Newhart, Bob Crane, Sponge Bob, even Bobdole, they're all nice and cuddly. This vampire bat of yours (whatever the heck it is) can't lose by going by 'Bob.'

I kind of like to wait and let pets name themselves.

Usually I just start calling them something. On the other hand, my cat, Cat, kept that name for his entire life.

As tempted as I am to go with Nigel...... I like the scientific approach used to come up with Winston (And it had the scientific name on the label, it just never occured to me to use it)..... thanks for the idea Marley....

Winston probably isn't going to exactly show up as much as the Big Three in my artwork, but I had to draw him after receiving him as a gift from a kind person on this Bored. Ody and Spilly better watch out, because he's lurking on top of my 5-tier shelf high above their heads just waiting to pounce............
