But she has to buy a Wii to use her prize.
Was there ever an official statement made about whether people like her are now prohibited from becoming a regular contestant?
How are such people chosen from the audience? I saw no indication of screening potential players in the audience when I was there in September.

Yes, it's in the
$1,000 Question Game Rules.
The participation in this $1,000 Question Game shall not affect the audience member's eligibility for participation as a regular contestant on the Program at a later date.
If anything, getting picked (at some staffer's discretion) for this mini-game probably gives these contestants a leg up for the real thing, presuming TPTB like their on-air performance. IIRC, somebody reported that one of the first One Question Contestants did come back as a regular contestant.

1. They are not prohibited. In fact, I think one has already become a regular contestant.
2. A producer (or two) walks up to someone in the audience and asks them whether they want to be a potential one question contestant. If yes, they're handed an application/disclosure packet. It's on yellow paper.
I was at the final tapings of the season on November 19, so I got a preview of the Wii game prize. The one Meredith uses on the set is a prop. I was hoping to be the first person to become a one question contestant after being a regular contestant - it was close, but no cigar. Someone very near to where I was sitting became a one question contestant, which is how I learned about the process.

Well, this time "charlie out" didn't pay off. So she has the game but no money to pay to buy a Wii for it.
