CBS has pulled Drew Carey's Power of 10 from its primetime schedule effective immediately. Next week, two episodes of returning comedy The New Adventures of Old Christine will replace it. Power of 10 had gotten poor ratings and was beaten soundly every week by Deal or No Deal (not to mention getting crushed by American Idol). The show is expected to return this summer however.

CBS has also announced it will air six prime time episodes of Price is Right with Drew beginning February 22 on Friday at 8:00. Ghost Whisperer (in repeats of course) will move to 9:00 and Moonlight (also in repeats of course) will go on hiatus.

If the strike continues much longer, GSN will go out of business because of the competition from the regular networks.

No one was ever going to be bold enough to go for the $10 MM...especially since there seemed to be no logical way to figure out what America was thinking, or how accurate those surveys were.

Nothing compelling for a viewer to latch onto.

Has anybody been watching Power of 10 the last couple of weeks? I haven't.

My folks are DoND fans. <sigh> There, Howie's on his incredible quest to give away a million dollars by adding one more $1 million case every time a contestant fails to win the top prize. Meh.

Does anyone really think DoND will ever give away $1 million? I don't think most contestants will be able to turn down offers of $500,000 or more.

Interestingly there was an article that someone linked yesterday that suggested Po10 might be syndicated. Now perhaps not so much.

All least we know that Drew won't starve since he has another job to fall back on.

One did last night - she turned down a $650K offer and ended up with around $400K.

She turned down a $650K offer and chose a case - it has one of the $1M in it. The offer dropped to around $400K, which she took. Good thing, because her case had the $400 in it.

The problem with adding cases, it seems to me, is that it really doesn't change anything other than the banker's offers. The more $1M cases there are, the more likely it is that a contestant will pick one out, thus reducing the number. I'm sure there's some optimum number of cases (maybe 13 out of 26), beyond which the game will not go.

I do think about getting on this show sometimes. I bypass the turning myself inside out for the APs part, and go directly to the stage. I pick my six cases, get the first offer, and say, "Eh, that's enough money. Deal.", at which point my segment goes on the cutting room floor, and I don't get a check. But since they've started Howie's quest, I think about getting on with 10 or 12 cases with $1,000,000. I'd prolly play that one out.

I finally understand the appeal of DoND.

They have the DoND game at Chuck E Cheese. It's actually fun.

I've discovered that CEC is doable if you go at odd times when nobody is there.

There's no way to get me to go on a weekend.

Ouch. $650K was close enough to expected value to make it hard risking that, with a 1/3 chance of dropping to $400.

I confess that I was unable to root for that contestant. She wasn't cute enough to play the small-town beauty queen angle, and she wasn't smart enough to be appealing in any other way.

As her husband said, "She thought we needed passports to come to California."

Without meaning to raise the ire of any of the females on the board, I found her motivation - "I just want to have babies" - to be annoying.

Maybe she promised the AP's that she'd have one right there on the show if they picked her.

It was $628,000 and $471,000, not that I was watching or even taped the show specifically to find out what would happen.

That's not so bad. So she lost $157K gambling on a one in three chance of winning an extra $372K, if she had eliminated the $400 case.

Of course, just by being cast by the producers, she had an expected value of $350K. Damn nice work, if you can get it.

Drew seems to give his opinion to the contestant too often.

I watched one recently and his opinion was listened to and it cost her the game. I expected that to have an affect on his for the next guy...... it didn't.

I also think he really sucks on TPIR.

As someone else pointed out to me, Drew will always argue for a contrary position to whatever the contestant is thinking, just to rachet up the tension and excitement.

According to the Great Ones on Pioneers of Television, a good host wants the contestant to win. Doesn't sound like Drew is headed for greatness.

I would not be surprised to hear they are looking for a new TPIR host.

He is REALLY bad.
