Akiva had the "actor's nightmare" - he dreamed he had no clothes on and didn't know where he was.

Topic Tree: (unrandomized)
- Big Baby
- Role Reversal
- Nip/Tuck
- Tribute Songs
- Asian Peninsulas
- Prime Time TV
- Archaeological Sites

- American Ancestry
- Nightclub Promotions

- Role Reversal
- Nip/Tuck
- American Ancestry
- Tribute Songs
- Asian Peninsulas

Meredith asks Akiva if he's ready. "I was born ready!"

Question #1 (Asian Peninsulas)
The Anatolian peninsula makes up most of the western portion of what country?
A - Iran
B - Turkey
C - Saudi Arabia
D - Pakistan

"Good question," Akiva says, then repeats it. He thinks it's
Spoiler
Turkey
but he's not sure. Meredith reminds him of the lifelines and he replies, "It would be a shame to leave them up there." He then notes, "I came to win money," to which Meredith replies, "I certainly hope so."
Spoiler
Answer: B (Turkey)
Value: $100
Bank: $100
Question #2 (Tribute Songs)
At the July 2009 memorial to Michael Jackson, Mariah Carey sang what ballad from his 2001 Greatest Hits album?
A - I'll Be There
B - Hero
C - Vision of Love
D - Can't Let Go

The only one Akiva knows that Mariah Carey recorded was
Spoiler
I'll Be There
so he makes that his final answer.
Spoiler
Answer: A (I'll Be There)
Value: $500
Bank: $600
Question #3 (American Ancestry)
Meaning "third generation," the word "sansei" refers to Americans who are the grandchildren of immigrants from what country?
A - India
B - Russia
C - Japan
D - Mexico

Akiva knows that "nisei" is what 1st generation
Spoiler
Japanese
are called. Akiva speaks a little Russian and a little Spanish but his Indian is terrible.
Spoiler
Answer: C (Japan)
Value: $2,000
Bank: $2,600
Question #4 (Nip/Tuck)
"Blepharoplasty" is a cosmetic surgery procedure that can address which of these problems?
A - thinning lips
B - baggy eyelids
C - flabby arms
D - crooked nose

Akiva is "jumping this question so fast."
Spoiler
Answer: B (baggy eyelids)
Value: $15,000
Bank: $2,600 (no change)
Akiva says, "I'm all right" after the amount is revealed

Question #5 (Role Reversal)
Which of these actors appeared as both a male and a female character in the "Godfather" films?
A - Sofia Coppola
B - Ethan Hawke
C - Alyssa Milano
D - Joaquin Phoenix

Akiva works in the theater. He knows that
Spoiler
Sofia Coppola played the firstborn son in either the first or second movie and played the daughter in the third.
Spoiler
Answer: A (Sofia Coppola)
Value: $1,000
Bank: $3,600
commercial break

Akiva is feeling comfortable but would like to see some of the big money come up. The one question he jumped was worth $15,000. Meredith says that most of the big money is still available.

Question #6 (Archaeological Sites)
A message that translates as "Long Live Nero" is among the ancient graffiti found at what famed archaeological site?
A - Pyramid of Cheops
B - Stonehenge
C - Great Wall of China
D - Pompeii

Akiva knows
Spoiler
Nero was a Roman emperor but not a very popular guy.
He also knows that
Spoiler
Pompeii was a Roman colony that was buried by Mt. Vesuvius.
The others are much too ancient for that.
Spoiler
Answer: D (Pompeii)
Value: $3,000
Bank: $6,600
Question #7 (Big Baby)
Before a marathon, runners often attempt to stock up on glycogen with a dietary strategy known as what?
A - protein-loading
B - veggie-loading
C - fat-loading
D - carbo-loading

Akiva is a native of Newton, MA, where the Boston Marathon comes through. Every year he sees participants stuffing their faces with
Spoiler
spaghetti.
Spoiler
Answer: D (carbo-loading)
Value: $10,000
Bank: $16,600
Question #8 (Big Baby)
Averaging 8 months, the gestation period of which of these large animals is shorter than that of a human?
A - hippopotamus
B - elephant
C - killer whale
D - walrus

Akiva loved to learn about mammals when he was younger and he says that
Spoiler
elephants have a 24-month gestation period "which sounds incredibly painful".
He just doesn't know the answer, although he says that this was the hardest question before they were randomized. He has a second JTQ and decides to use it.
Spoiler
Answer: A (hippopotamus)
Value: $25,000
Bank: $16,600 (no change)
Question #9 (Nightclub Promotions)
In 2010, a federal court rejected claims that what popular bar and nightclub promotion is discriminatory?
A - Happy Hour
B - Open Mic Night
C - Buy One, Get One Free
D - Ladies' Night

Akiva says he has to assume that it was discrimination based on
Spoiler
sex because Happy Hour only discriminates against those who go to bed really early and Open Mic Night would discriminate against bad singers.
Spoiler
Answer: D (Ladies' Night)
Value: $7,000
Bank: $23,600
Question #10 (Prime Time TV)
Desmond gathers Jack and others together in a church in the last minutes of what TV drama's much-hyped 2010 final episode?
A - The Tudors
B - Law & Order
C - Lost
D - 24

Akiva is really excited to be going to the second round because he knows the answer.
Spoiler
Answer: C (Lost)
Value: $5,000
Bank: $28,600
Akiva will not be going to the next round today because Meredith tells him time is up. (No "end of game noise".)

A screen insert says that Syndicated Millionaire has given away over $60 million since 2002.

The "blast from the past" question was worth $250,000 IN 2005

Who was the first official mascot of the Summer Olympics?
A - Cobi the dog
B - Waldi the dachshund
C - Amik the beaver
D - Hodori the tiger
Spoiler
B (Waldi the dachshund)
The rest of the broadcast was taken up with the celebration of the 1500th episode. Duff, the Ace of Cakes, brings out a cake - stacks of coins topped by currency and the BAM logo. As Meredith cuts the cake, confetti falls from the ceiling.

I agreed with Meredith's reaction for once. Duff handed her the knife and Meredith stared at that amazing piece of baked architecture, wondering "where do I start cutting it?" :P

Sorry I missed this show. From the transcript, Akiva sounds like a great contestant: knowledgeable, with a sense of humor, and willing to take some risks.

A cultural difference: Akiva refers to the children of immigrants as 1st generation (as most of us would), but the Japanese call the grandchildren of immigrants 3rd generation, not 2nd.

As someone mentioned in another thread, Akiva was the second runner-up in the 1997 Jeopardy! Teen Tournament.

Not too tough but when I first read the question I was thrown a little by the "western portion" of the country. Anatolia is the western part
Spoiler
of the Asian part of Turkey but the most western portion of Turkey is in the region of Thrace, not Anatolia.

I vaguely remember Akiva from his Teen Tourney appearance back then. I'm pleased to see he's still very bright.

Now for the questions-

1 through 4 were easy for me. Anybody who's been on J! should know their geography.

5, 6, and 7 were easy too. Question 8 had me. I knew it wasn't elephant (they take 2 years!) but didn't know which of the other 3 it was-JTQ.

9-easy

10-ATA.
I'm just a game show nerd.

I'd use ATA here because I would have had no idea.

"Sansei" shows up periodically in crossword puzzles, although "nisei" is more common.

I'd JTQ also.

Time for my 2nd JTQ.

I gotta say he did have a rough go in the randomization of the money, earning just the smaller amounts and losing the big ones.

Hmmm...is Akiva a closet BB? He's the first one to mention the pre-randomized order as an indication of the toughness of the question.

Michael Rooney said he mentioned that during his first episode, but TPTB edited that out from the tape. I was somewhat surprised that they didn't edit it out this time.

But if you are lurking out there, Akiva, how about saying hello?

The logical response to be sure but not necessarily the most logical logic. Romans were in Britain and Egypt (not that either were known as that of course) in the time of Nero so presumably graffiti in his name could be there.

Flaubert has his name chiseled in the wall of the Luxor temple (amongst thousands of other graffiti chiseled into various Eyptian ruins) so the fact that the ruins came before wouldn't seem to mean that much.

Son of a family friend.

He was on J! as a high-school student; he got a biblical question right, based on his familiarity with the topic, as his father is a Jewish biblical scholar, & J!'s idiot experts ruled him wrong.

Mr. Fox is the 1st to speak out loud on the show on a topic I'd observed & was gonna bring up on this board, except I haven't been here much lately. Anyway, he beat me to it in the bestest way:

When they show you the topics before they scramble them, they have them in order of ascending difficulty. If you can remember the topic titles of the most difficult (I go for the top 3) you will know "this really is meant to be a difficult question" when you encounter them after the scramble.

So you know you are not being faked out just because you don't know the answer; if it was originally, for instance, the 25K Q, many people wouldn't be expected to know the answer.

Yeah, I have been keeping track of this; the original order of the questions really is the ascending order of difficulty.
