A transcript from earlier this season had us discussing whether people ought to have noticed the tiny "VDB" mark on the Lincoln penny. This sort of puts that in perspective.

Unless there was some heavy editing, how disappointing that Mere didn't even attempt to help her out the way Reeg would have back in the day... "Now think about it- who's on the penny, who's on the quarter, etc- and Who was the first frickin president of the United States?" are simply not tough questions. I mean, does ANYONE who's spent money for at least half a century really NOT at LEAST know who's on the penny and quarter? I'm sorry, this was just a crying shame.

My guess is that those were his instructions from the producers -- make sure that the attractive ones went as far as possible into the stack.

Yes, the (in)famous Katy Something. Regis essentially gave her about three answers in a row, then when she was up to about $250,000 the mojo ran out, and she guessed wrong and fell to $32,000, after tentatively identifying two or three of the choices as the correct answer. She punched her husband when he came on stage as she griped that she had actually had the right answer-- one of the two or three she tentatively identified as the right answer-- implying Regis talked her out of it.

It just really bothered me cuz Shirley was so likeable, and I wish she hadn't given up so darn quickly (unless, of course, she had tried to talk it out- and it was edited out).

I realize that at first, the Q may have seemed daunting to those of us who don't know the order of the presidents, but I would have liked to have seen Mere ask her to ATTEMPT to name them, and then see if the Washington/1st President info may have clicked in her brain, given a minute to hash it out. I know she said she doesn't look at coins, but almost everyone knows who's on the quarter.

I believe Shirley's game was the same episode as the Anniversary Cake Show. I'm wondering if Meredith was being pressured to hurry things along so they could get to that segment without having to do too much editing... It disturbed me that she asked, "final?" SO quickly after Shirley's instant bow out, maybe Shirley took that as Mere's agreement that the Q was too difficult or risky to bother even attempting to reason out. I'm all for playing it safe, and tht I'm presenting a lo of coulda, woulda, shoulda here, but I still think her probable continuation and/or a bit more cash may have been sacrificed the sake of keeping things "moving along." And if so, that's a shame.

I thought he was referring to Lisa Lord. Can't remember for sure if Regis walked her to the 64K she eventually won or not, but I remember she seemed to be dead meat early in the game.....
