Special Halloween edition featuring stars of the SyFi Channel series "Ghost Hunters" - Jason Hawes and Grant Wilson.

[Transcriptionist's note: The two came out together and there was no identifying information to distinguish between the two, and having never watched "Ghost Hunters", the transcriptionist has no idea which is which. One is tall and bald with a goatee, the other is youngish.]

Meredith says it's a thrill for her. The two men go to people's homes "when they're spooked out" and figure out what's going on. They try to scientifically figure out what really is going on, to find the explanation. They firmly believe in the paranormal but also believe that over 80% of the claims can be disproved. They've done work for the U.S. military and for churches. Meredith asks which is scarier - going into a home or being on the show. They say it's being on the show.

Jason and Grant met as plumbers. Meredith asked them how they got into the paranormal. The bald one says that each of them had an experience that changed them from non-believers into believers. Meredith asks what they say to people who say that there's no way there could be ghosts out there. The youngish one replies that everyone is like that until they have an experience that stares them right in the face. The bald one says they aren't trying to argue the point. They're just trying to help people who believe they have seen something unusual, and they do it free of charge. They want to empower those people.

They were hoping for something more unanimous. Meredith says they might have influenced the audience by mentioning the one answer. The bald one says that if they miss, $25,000 is more than they had when they started. The youngish one says that if they leave they are in the middle between the $25,000 and the $100,000. Meredith jokes that this sounds like an advanced mathematics problem. The bald one says no matter what they decide they'll be arguing about it on the way home. The youngish one says they can walk with the $61,100 and do something else to raise the difference. The bald one hates this because he likes a good challenge. The youngish one asks if he can turn around and ask his phone. They decide to walk away, but when Meredith says "final?" they hesitate, but finally make that their final answer.

I would love for some contestant one day to turn the tables in this worn-out cliched question/answer and say, "No, my regular job IS harder, I'm loving the vacation right now."

I guess if I actually watched "Ghost Hunters" I'd know which one was which. It was annoying not knowing.

I was in a singing group in the 60s and we sang "Erie Canal". I can hear the lyrics, and the bass voice (not mine) who sang "from Albany to Buffalo."

I'm fairly up on sci-fi movies - Quartermass is a character from a British sci-fi series and they made a movie out of it. "Neptune" is a sorta "Voyage to the Bottom of the Sea" film. "Alpha" is about an organism brought back from Mars.

Over all not as bad as I feared, and the two men at least acknowledged that the vast majority of so-called "ghosts" could be explained away.

It was mentioned on "Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives" when Guy stopped at a place in Rhode Island. I saw the re-run about a week after this show aired. This place also featured Johnny Cakes.

So, to clarify, at the time the show aired, did you know that Rhode Islanders drank coffee milk or not?
