For the last couple weeks I have felt pretty rotten-- lots of general ennui, very congested, occasional really nasty headaches (similar in intensity to migraines, but without the fun parts of a true migraine-- no aura, no pretty lights, none of that), severe jaw pain, etc.. Darling Pat ordered me to a medical provider (my employer has a free clinic on campus for us to use), and I went in yesterday, and found out that I am still extraordinarily healthy (BP was 109/74, pulse was 65, all appropriate body parts still in place except for the gall bladder that was torn out several years ago), but I do have a very nasty sinus infection. and exploding lymph nodes. So I was prescribed some stuff for that and will supposedly be healed soon.
But... Also yesterday I developed some really sharp, severe pains in my left eye, the eye I rip up from time to time when removing my contacts (it only happens to my left eye, which is the eye that almost works, the right being essentially blind; learned doctor has noted that my left eye is slightly misshapen beyond the usual misshapenness that accompanies severe myopia, and this makes it difficult to remove contact lenses). What was odd is that I haven't worn contacts since Tuesday, so if I tore my cornea (again) when I removed my lenses on Tuesday, it should have been unpleasant on Wednesday, but everything was OK then, other than the sinusitis thingie. I scheduled time for the eye doctor, planning to go there directly after my appointment with the sinusitis doctor, but during the day the eye pain disappeared, and I figured that I must have gotten something in the eye that flushed out during the day (which would explain why I had no problems on Wednesday), so I canceled the appointment. Then, at about 4:30 pm yesterday, the eye problem came back WITH A VENGEANCE, so I ended up at the eye guy's office anyway, and he found I had a pretty severe gouge in the cornea, which concerns him greatly. He plopped in some anesthetic to reduce the excruciating pain (alas, it wore off after an hour), and prescribed two separate antibiotics, one very specific for what he thinks is happening, the other a broader spectrum (and, alas, expensive non-generic) antibiotic.
So right now I am taking one antibiotic for the sinusitis (horse pill, 2 times per day), two separate antibiotic eyedrops (one three times per day, the other four times per day), I am taking Mucinex to try and clear the congestion (one horse pill once or twice per day), a nasal wash (once or twice per day), and generic pain reliever (aspirin). And my ~!@#$%^&* eye still hurts like hell, and the lymph nodes are still swollen and hurt like hell (the one on the left, anyway), my nose is running disgustingly like an incumbent Congressman, my left eye is tearing like a teenage girl watching Titanic, and I can barely see anything anyway, and I cannot even wear my cool eye patch because it bulges out and my glasses cannot cover it.
Well. As it happens, I can stoically bear the tortures of the damned without complaint, so long as people know that I am stoically bearing the tortures of the damned without complaint. And now you all know. So, may I please have a bit of pity and sympathy, so that I can get through the rest of the day, without having to whine any further?
Thank you so much.
