Quick report about MarleysDad

As previously reported, Dad had his surgery on Jan. 11 and came through it very well. They had him in intensive care for a day, because that was how they'd planned it, but he didn't really need to be there. He never had to go on a ventilator, for instance.

Last Wednesday, they discharged him from the hospital and I drove him to a nursing home for some rehab. Dad made it clear to all concerned that he was there for "two days". That's "two days", not "a few days". (If I repeated everything he grumbled about in the past couple weeks, I'm afraid I'd wear out the sarcafont button. I'll try to resist. )

I brought him home on Friday, according to his wishes, and he's gradually been resuming his normal activities. We went to a follow-up visit with his surgeon yesterday. The pathology report confirms that the tumor was "encapsulated" and was negative in the margins, i.e., it was limited to that one spot and hasn't spread elsewhere. We got all of the little carcinoma bastidges! :)

Dad should be overjoyed with this news and how everything's went, but he's much too busy complaining about the medical system and little, unimportant issues to think about the big issue. <sigh>

Anyway, it's good to be back! :)

Hurray for the pathology report and the departure of all the microscopic and no-longer-existing bastidges.

Someday, you may think of the paternal grumbles as funny, but in the meantime, hang in there!

Just take it as a good sign that he's full of piss and vinegar and feeling feisty.

Really good news--the ol' guy is still feisty--that will serve him well.

What's that about apples and trees?

I've also gotten really good at eye rolls over the years. In talking to my sister last night, I've learned that she's considered the black sheep of the family because she can only take so much before voicing her opinions, whereas I'm the good child because I've become extremely proficient at bottling up my feelings and limiting myself to the silent eye rolls when they're not looking.

Thank you for posting.

I noticed that your silence had me making up the worst.

All you can do is love them - parents - I mean. Just like they can no longer direct your life, you can't direct their's.

May you have many more years of eye rolling and grumbles and make wrong of your mom and your dad.

Sorry about that. The hospital has a couple public access computers in the waiting rooms from which I posted those drive-by reports, but I didn't have any internet access at home.

Gosh, no need to aplogize. I didn't mean to leave you with anything guilt related.

I am so happy it all went well for your dad.

Rehab is not so fun - I love that he insisted on just 2 days. I love that you were able to get him out.
