Although there is a move afoot to eliminate this prejudicial position in time for the Sochi Olympics.

All in all a good run, and some tough questions for a new citizen (Burnside and Clinton spring to mind).

I know he could have jumped but this is the one time I felt the audience legitimately screwed him out of winning in the long run. You could see he kept pointing and talking to some guy in the audience. I was about three seats next to him during that act. He would not shut up, nor would others around him. When he was about to answer to anything, he groaned. When he wanted to Jump, he shouted, "No!" He constantly freaked the contestant out, which was all edited out. You can see the contestant getting annoyed by it. You can see Meredith even talking to him. The one time the dude didn't shout anything is the one time he was wrong. Figures.

During the meeting after taping I was sure to mention this, because I felt terrible for the guy. We all felt for him. The sideburns question took him a good 15 minutes to answer. He was terrified of that. We were all relieved, but man did we feel awful for him when he lost.

Incidentally I was chosen for the audience game by one of the staffers who didn't know me. Equally figures. One time I get selected to win anything and I'm so ineligible it's sad.

Second stack I've seen this season where I'm confident I'd have made it through the first round. --Bob

That's quite some confidence with 2 questions unseen. Have you never "been sure" of an answer, to find out you were wrong?

Well, if he hasn't used any lifelines yet and he has two questions to go, I'd say he could be confident of making it to the next level since all he has to do is JTQ twice and he's there.

Unless, as I said, he is "sure" of one of those two answers, saves the JtQ, gives the wrong answer and falls out.

There is always that. But that's why he said "confident", not "guaranteed". Under the same circumstances I'd be pretty confident also.

What meeting after the taping? And wasn't Paul doing his job to warn the audience not to say anything when they're not supposed to? In the tapings I've gone to, I've generally been very impressed with the self-discipline of the audience in this regard (with the occasional exception of a loudmouth or two, who might possibly have had psychological problems).

Can you tell us more about how they select someone for that game? I presume it's all "at their discretion," i.e., they're looking for sparkling personalities in the brief moments they might have contact with the audience.

Oh, gosh, Meredith, more "interaction" doesn't actually improve the game play. How can that be?

While I'm criticizing the stunts that Meredith promoted, here, I should point out that I liked Daniel. He certainly sounded like a BB, even if he was having trouble with some of the questions (and with audience distractions).

Paul did, but this guy would not listen. This was the final taping of this set of audience, and this is really when the started getting bad so he was on his way out anyway. And I just had a meeting/interview with the new executive producer and someone else after. Just asked a few questions and did some catching up with some old friends on the show.
Can you tell us more about how they select someone for that game? I presume it's all "at their discretion," i.e., they're looking for sparkling personalities in the brief moments they might have contact with the audience.
I mean if nothing else, they are truly picking a random audience member. But, and I know this sounds incredibly egotistical so I'm sorry, they I'd guess they are looking for younger attractive people dressed well. But they are randomly selected during the commercial break. Some guy comes around with a clipboard, scans the audience, and comes up and asks if they want to do it. Then they just had the lady run to the other side of the audience, where she entered from, so the cameras could easily get her entrance.

There was a semi-long stop for some reason after Daniel lost and they had to retape his exit twice. He had to sit there (they obviously bring out stools during breaks) for a good 5-10 extra minutes after he lost.

[catty]This wasn't the case during the taping I attended. [/catty] He was funny and personable, though.

Okay, so they appear to make a spur-of-the-moment selection, instead of picking out someone who they had chatted with earlier, while standing in line or possibly while Paul is working the audience. But I'd still classify this as an "arbitrary" selection, not a "random" one; an important difference to me, who would never fall into the "younger attractive people dressed well" category.

So I guess the audience needs to root for contestants to bomb out at the start of the final taping segment, so that one of them might get the chance to play, now.
