Here is the next installment of Match Game Monday. The following 12 songs can be split up into six pairs based on some underlying theme.

1 point for the title, 1 point for the artist, and 1 point for each correct match....

2. Islands in the Stream - Kenny Rogers and Dolly Parton

4. Ice Ice Baby - Vanilla Ice. The first "true" rap song to hit number one on Billboard's Hot 100, I believe. A number of years earlier, Blondie hit the top with Rapture, but I don't count that one. Hell, I barely count Mr. Van Winkle's song.

Ghetto Superstar - Pras. Which means if Under Pressure is here, probably Ice Ice Baby is. Let me see if I can find it.

Matches: 2-12, 4-9, I guess there are other songs that are recorded right over the music of others. I don't see Superfreak or Can't Touch This (though I could have easily missed them) or Whisper to a Scream or Evenflow.

Most other sane people don't really think of Smells Like Teen Spirit and More than a Feeling this way, but I do. And Jungleland and Romeo and Juliet. But I'm about 100% sure I'd have spotted any of those four anyway.

So, um, 1-7, 3-8, 5-10, 1-11 for the rest.

Legend of a Cowgirl - Imani Coppola (I never expected this song to be shutout #2 on the season, but it was universally missed. I seem to recall this song was only gotten by one or two players the last time I used it in an LS. Not sure why it isn't more well known... it still gets played occasionally on the radio around here, and it has a music video since it was once on Pop Up Video in the late 90's...)

Ghetto Superstar - Pras and some others (This song was part of the soundtrack to my first year at work when way too many people wanted to listen to the Top 40 station while we were unloading the truck .... i.e., this song came out in 1998)

The theme, as most figured out, was songs sampling previous songs.

1-11 - Rapper's Delight sampled Good Times

2-12 - Ghetto Superstar sampled Islands in the Stream[/b] (There was another song at the time that sampled Every Breath You Take that I couldn't stand)

3-6 - SOS sampled Tainted Love

4-9 - Ice Ice Baby allegedly sampled Under Pressure. At least that's what Mr. Van Winkle will tell you if you go through his drive thru line today....

5-10 - Gettin' Jiggy With It sampled He's the Greatest Dancer

7-8 - The unkown Legend of a Cowgirl sampled Sunshine Superman

As I expeted, with all the rap and disco, you either loved this game or you hated this game. The scores tened mainly towards the extremes....
