WWTBAM Bored

We saw There Will Be Blood today. Daniel Day-Lewis should get the Best Actor Oscar, no questions about it. It's a fascinating story about a badly flawed but compelling character. There's no dialogue in the first twenty minutes or so of the movie but it's still very effective.

The movie wobbles a bit the last hour, and the ending is one of those bizarre "love it or hate it" scenarios. I don't think it's a better movie than No Country for Old Men, but it's easily one of the best of the year.

For anyone who has seen the movie, this Youtube parody is hilarious. If you haven't seen the film, though, it won't make a lot of sense.

Saw this Friday night.

It's a real movie person's movie, what with ingenious camera work and a story that harkens back to life epics like Citizen Kane and The Magnificent Ambersons.

That said, you're either going to love it, hate it or scratch your head about it- or all three.

Daniel Day Lewis is in every scene- nearly every shot. They had me with the first twenty minutes where there's not a line of dialog.

I was trying to think of a scene without Daniel Day-Lewis, and I did come up with one (the one where Eli berates his father after Plainview had just kicked the crap out of him in the mud and oil)...

I'll never be able to think of milk shakes the same way again.
