School application is in

#1 Post by a1mamacat » Sun Jan 20, 2008 12:04 pm

so...now we wait. His marks are borderline, but his references are stellar. One reference, the Community member reference was done by his old school counsellor, who has know him for 6 year. She was at both his elementary and middle school. She's gone back to school herself now to get her masters in SW. She sent me a copy, as she herself loathes secret reference letters lol.

Teachers of the Board...doesn't this sound like a kid you would salivate to get your hands on?????

To Whom It May Concern:

This is a letter of reference for *Big J*who is applying to be a student at your school. From September of 1999 until June of 2007, I was a Youth and Family Counsellor in the **** school district. I had the pleasure of working at both ******* Elementary and ****l Middle schools, and therefore, had the pleasure of knowing *Big J* for approximately six of those years. I have not had the opportunity to see *Big J* blossom further in his grade eight year as I have gone back to school myself!

* Big J*is one of the most creative thinkers and sharpest minds I have met in all of my years in the school system. *Big J* has an unconventional sense of humor that can match the quickest wit of the most intelligent adult. The abstract connections he is able to make, and the expansive vocabulary he has mastered are phenomenal for his age. *Big J* has insights that are far beyond other students his age.

Although *Big J* has always had a goal of building friendships, this has not always been an easy task for him. *Big J* has a kind heart, and good intentions, but the same wisdom and humor that is wonderfully unique about him, is a humor that other students his age are sometimes not able to understand. This has created frustration for *Big J* in the past; however, his ability to handle this frustration with appropriate coping strategies has continued to grow throughout his years, and his social skills have continued to improve. When *Big J* was younger, frustration led to some challenging behaviors. In contrast, over the last few years one would be much more likely to find *Big J* coping with frustration by reading a book, and not wanting to put it down even during breaks!

As I am not a teacher, I cannot speak to *Big J'* academic ability. I do know, however, that he sometimes finds it a struggle to write out what he wants to say. *Big J* has continued to work on his writing. With that said, I believe it would benefit *Big J* greatly to be in a school and in a classroom with a teacher who is aware of differentiated teaching and learning styles, and who can encourage and appreciate the areas where *Big J* shines. *Big J*s extraordinary qualities are not qualities that one would ever want to “box in”. His creative mind deserves a chance to be really engaged, and his personality to blossom even more.

I strongly recommend that you consider *Big J*as a candidate for your school. There is no doubt that in a nurturing and creative environment, *Big J* would continue to grow and achieve even greater learning. I also guarantee that around *Big J*, your staff would not be without a smile! Feel free to call me at *******with any questions.

Sincerely,

*******, BSW

I must say she has a way with words. I like what she has to say and how she says it.

Keep that letter.

As Big J grows up, you will see more and more truth in her statements. As will he.
