Now this is downright spooky. I once thought about this, and this is EXACTLY the question that I figured I would ask. And one I would like to have been asked on the show (since I know the answer).

I figured it'd be good because it's a number everyone knows about, but how far down does the average person remember. And great minds think alike.

Not only did I see Grace Hopper hold up the bug, I saw Gene Amdahl hold up a wire illustrating how far electricity travelled in a nanosecond (which is near the speed of light).

I am unfamiliar with the question so I had to break it down. Is the answer
b?

I never saw Grace hold up the bug, but I did see her twice with her nanosecond. Once in '76 at Ft. Benjamin Harrison, IN and around '80 at Texas A&M.

I'm afraid someone's spilled celery tonic on the tape. There will be no airdate.

Celery tonic? Who is producing these shows? The Wonderpets? (Inside joke for those with small kids.)

Well, they can't all be science and math questions! So now that you can't have a PaF Googling, mine would be:
What is Agatha Christie's maiden name?
A: Mallowan
B: Miller
C: Westmacott
D: Lemon
Since she's famous enough everyone should know who she is and all the choices are associated with her in one way or another.

Now that's a good one! With the pi question, you either know it or you don't. With stuff like this, you think you have a chance to reason it out (even if you don't).
I don't know this one (and I'm actually interested enough to want to), but I did know Anne Rice's birth name......

I saw it quite by accident in the Library of Congress info on a collection I had and tried to Google it unsuccessfully for confirmation a few years ago. I had to know the answer to find the answer. Now it pops up easily, but the PaF is gone so the Google component is gone.

And, in looking it up, (I haz a Google!!!1) I also learned her pen name. I didn't even know she had one.
So I have learned two things today and can spend the rest of it in ignorance......

Okay, I'm clueless. Explain the reasoning, please.

With the above example, you can think, 'hmmmm, Westmacott sounds familiar....' or 'surely if it was Mallowan I would remember that.....'
If you're asked pi to the tenth place, you either know it or you don't. Numbers are numbers, they don't 'sound right' or 'seem logical'.
