I can't remember if I mentioned the leak the water line to my icebox got thanks to Spilly's chewing right after I first got them over here or just in chat..... but I finally decided to fix the problem this morning by putting in a new water line....

After two hours of chaos and having to drive a mile and a half while my kitchen was flooding to drag my Dad over to try to figure it out, I had no choice but to shut off my water for the day and clean up the lake in the kitchen. Dad is at dialysis now attempting to come up with a solution to at least get the water shut off behind the icebox tomorrow.....

It has been an interesting morning, and I really needed some sleep today........

I take it the water line was not metal? I replaced one once and installed a shut-off valve as well. At least I think I did. But that was in a high rise condo. Never heard if there was a complaint.

Call a plumber. Really.

The water line is just a plastic tube... what was keeping us from fixing it was that it would not come unattached from the hookup on the icebox. We could get the nut loose, but it would not unhook..... and trying to get it off just damaged the line even more to where water was streaming out.....

In fact, the water has been shut off for almost an hour now, and it's STILL dripping out of the hookup. It's literally the only place in the house that apparently still has running water.....

Couple of things to try for now:

1. There is a shut-off valve for this somewhere. Usually it's a thing called a 'saddle-T'. It's just a small brass valve clamped on to another water line. Most likely located in the basement or crawlspace underneath the fridge location. If you find it you can turn it off. Once you do that you can turn the main water back on again.
2. If that doesn't work, then cut the plastic line (closer to the fridge if possible). Then fold the last couple of inches back on itself. Fold it again. Wrap it with tape to hold the folds tight. That should also stop the water flow so you can turn the main water back on.
3. Go to Lowe's and get a braided steel icemaker supply line. It will cost you about $10. Once you figure out how to remove the old line you can replace it with this style and you'll never have problems again.
4. I feel like I'm posting in the DIY boards instead of the BAM bored today. This is what contractors do on rainy days.

Good thing it is raining today where you are. The Bored really needed your help!

That's what I should have used. But there was already a solid brass(?) waterline that ran along the floorboard from the sink to the refrigerator. I had to install the saddle-t. It worked great.
Maybe you should try something simpler like an icebox.

Thanks for the tip, especially on the braided steel line, which I assume means it is all cat chew proof....

Unfortunately, I was unsuccessful at finding a shutoff valve. There is no basement or crawl space, and I ran my hand as far back along the pipe inside the wall as I could with no success. Dad's coming bck out with me in the morning, and at the very least, we're going to figure out how to shut it off back there. I can always buy ice.....

There is no rest of the story until tomorrow. I went to bed, and have only had to mop up the kitchen floor two more times. 10 hours later, and it is still dripping. Not a drop to be had anywhere else around the house........
