New TV whine

The new TV is way fun. Looks and sounds great, even without upgrading to digital cable.
The whine is, we can't use the wireless headphones without disabling the speakers, which means we can't both listen to it, one with headphones (louder) and one without. And for the moment, we have no adapter for the wireless phones so we are using corded ones that don't quite reach.
It could be worse, but ack. I was very upset with the online tech who said we can't do both anymore. It sucks to give up a perfectly clear 18-year-old TV for this new one, and somehow go backwards on the audio technology.
