Ugh. We all have our silly little pet peeves, and a one-handed hand clapper annoys me to no end. Thankfully it's not something you run into every day.

In case anyone wonders what it looks like, here's the obligatory YouTube video:

Hey, Jacob said that talent would make him a lot of money! And it got him on the show, so it's made him at least $5,000.

So, a couple days ago we had an unemployed trader, now here's an unemployed financial analyst. TPTB must have decided to make this "Bail out Wall Streeters" week.

So now we know the answer to that koan.
And why would this be a subject for a world record?

Nihil obstat®.

Nihil obstat®.
From Merriam-Webster:
Main Entry: clap
Pronunciation: \ˈklap\
Function: verb
Inflected Form(s): clapped also clapt; clap·ping
Etymology: Middle English clappen, from Old English clæppan to throb; akin to Old High German klaphōn to beat
Date: 14th century

transitive verb 1 : to strike (as two flat hard surfaces) together so as to produce a sharp percussive noise
2 a : to strike (the hands) together repeatedly usually in applause b : applaud
What Jacob produced was (fitting definition #1) the sound of his finger tips clapping his palm. That's really not "one hand clapping" in my book. :P

I can make that noise by deliberately moving my finger to strike the palm. Jacob made it look like his fingers were so loose that they'd do that involuntarily when he shook his hand back and forth, but I think that might have been some misdirection. I've no idea why Guinness would be interested in the trick.
