If they have bowling alleys in Turkey, do they call three strikes in a row an "America"????

Just thought I'd ask.

Interesting. The bird that we call "turkey" the Turks call "hindi" because they think of it as from India.

Most places around the world the name for the fowl is related to India but in India, they use the word "peru". In Peru, they call it "pavo" as do most Spanish speakers which is Latin for peacock.

Macedonians call it "misir" from their word for Egypt. Most dialects of Arabic call it "diik Habash" which means Abyssinian rooster.

Interesting that people all over the world call it by a country name (except most Spanish speakers) but use different countries. I'm sure that's because of its relatively late introduction to world cultures but most New World products don't have such a tortured naming pattern.

I don't know, but a Brooklyn strike is called a Jersey when actually in Brooklyn.
