Hi, I seldom post here but I do look at the transcripts from time to time, so I will post my experience with the audition yesterday morning (September 21). I did manage to pass and was one of only eight, I believe, out of the whole audience for the three shows that intervened between taking the test and hearing the results. This makes it seem like more of a lost opportunity, because I really do not think I got high marks from the AP (Shayne [sp?], a young blonde) who interviewed me.

First, I answered honestly that I thought the new format made for less compelling viewing, because you don't have the growing suspense you did as the dollar values and difficulty rose together. Maybe that didn't actually hurt me, but I was disappointed at being again asked the same questions by the AP as I had answered on the application form then in her hands. I don't know why they don't ask something else instead, but anyway, to the question "I would be voted 'most likely to..."", my natural modesty prevented me from answering other than with a jocular "....rig the election". It was intended to be mildly amusing and not referred to again, but instead I was forced to explain what I meant, and when I did so, Shayne responded "ohh kaaaaaaayy.....". I am not sure if I have successfully conveyed her inflection, but try to imagine the tone that typically accompanies a slow, cautious, withdrawal.

Another of my answers, "I want to be on the show because"....."I need a comfortable place to sit", was made nonsense by the new set that I had not yet seen, wherein host and contestant stand opposite each other at a somewhat gymnastics horse-looking lectern.

I guess the lesson is, try to fight your natural modesty, or if that is too difficult, maybe ask a friend to fill out your form for you.

You gave an honest answer that wasn't whole-hearted agreement with TPTB's decisions. Then you couldn't come up with sufficiently perky, upbeat, original answers to their silly interview questions. Yeah, I'm afraid there will be a Sad Card coming your way in two to three weeks. (And you weren't invited to stay for a videotaped interview, right? That's the kiss of death, right there.)

TPTB will say to "Be yourself" at the interview, but that's not to assure your pass the audition, just to make it easier for them to sort out the ones they like from the ones they don't.

Some folks here suggest "Be yourself, but bigger!" But for some of us, being "bigger" is the opposite of being ourselves.

That is the material you provided them, so that is the material that would be used on the show. They don't have much time to go on a fishing expedition of your life to find out what is interesting enough about you to talk about on the show, especially during a taping where they have other duties to perform. They assume that you would write about the most interesting things about yourself, and they just want to clarify what you wrote and want you to expound on what you wrote if necessary.

I would never criticize the show to them if you want to be on it. The producers and staff work very hard to put on the show and have worked very hard to come up with the new rules, so if someone told me my work was not good, then they would probably be instantly rejected.

No offense, but the answer of "I want to be on the show because"....."I need a comfortable place to sit", isn't going to cut it IMO. It sounds like you just wrote something down just to fill in the place.

ETA: Oh crap, my phone rang about 2 minutes after I posted this. I thought my chest would explode - it was just my BIL.

I don't think my heart can take this - I'm a lot older now than when I first started trying. Having no hope was much more serene, and easier on the blood pressure.
