I ran "tuning up" by Keith & he knew exactly what it meant -- then he imitated it perfectly!

"Wah...*sniff*....wah....*sniff*......wah......etc!"

He also said he hasn't heard it in years, but yeah -- it's derived from "getting ready for your performance" & also from the sound.
