Meryl Streep is a perennial Oscar nominee. Tom Hanks is not.

Playing a mentally challenged (in some way) character is a great way to get an Oscar nomination.

I think Tom Hanks may be the closest thing to a perennial Oscar Nominee on the male side, at least in the last 2 decades. He has been nominated 5 times since '89 and is only the second person to win back-to-back Oscars.

And everyone knows you never go full retard.
