I wonder if the question writers expected contestants to have that conversion figure memorized? With TDC, 30 seconds isn't a lot of time to recall any more basic conversion factors and do the math, so it's a matter of first impressions based on realizing how small 5 ml is. Myah didn't make it any easier for the audience, by asking them after only 6 seconds.

ATA or DD on the measurement Q.

I knew the Congressman Q cold. Barney Frank is on the news a lot.

Tbe last one was kind of hard. I eliminated Austin because it doesn't even have an NBA team (the two teams in Texas are in Dallas and Houston). DD or ATE on this one.
I'm just a game show nerd.

And the math gets to Kazoo again. There are 3 NBA teams in Texas. Tim Duncan feels slighted.
Enough already. It's my fault! Get over it!

That'll be $10, please.

Good stack for me, would have probably been going for $100K with ATA and ATE. Would have had to DD on the $25K (eliminated B. Tablespoon & C. Quarter-cup).

No it's not. It's a close enough conversion for normal cooking situations, but it's certainly not "equal." It's off by about 1.42%.

Because it said "equal" instead of "approximate" I figured I would be able to eliminate any traditional English measures as I was sure the English measures did not correspond neatly to the metric ones. Then I was like WTF when they were all traditional English measures. The clock would have become a factor. However, I can't think of any metric measure that, if provided as an answer, would have caused me to answer incorrectly and leave LL's on the table.

Well, since Johnson never played for the Sacramento Kings, it does not matter that it has a NBA team. (Johnson was a Sun for his entire career, except part of his first year in Cleveland.)

Now, if you followed sports and remember that Johnson played at Cal, then you might have deduced that Sacramento was his hometown.

If the contestant needed a quicker way to figure it out, here's another approach:
"Okay Meredith, one milliliter is the same as one cubic centimeter, and of course we all know how the band 10 cc got its name, and from my personal experience, um, I mean from what my friends tell me, two teaspoons seems about right for 10 cc, but the question is asking about 5 cc, so that would be half as much, or one teaspoon, right? Yeah, the other choices are way too much. So I'll say A, teaspoon, final answer."

Wow, dream stack for me. Would have DD on the $50K but would have kept going. Although considering the timing between classes and that I'm in Chem NOW, I might have had to DD on the $25K.

People like to talk about how much harder the show is now than it was in prime time, and maybe that's true, but this stack was easier than most prime time stacks ever were. I don't know about the four remaining questions, since the topic tree is not shown in the transcript.

Double Dip on A and B. I'm quite surprised that the plurality of the audience nailed this one.

I can eliminate Denver because they're electing a new mayor this year. Atlanta is out because they just elected a new mayor a few months ago. And I don't ever recall Confessor or Frogman ever mentioning that KJ was elected mayor of Austin. So I'm going with Sac-town by POE.

Watching the Colbert Report comes in handy sometimes. Now if the question had been reversed (What former NBA player is mayor of Sacramento?) I probably would not have been able to pull out the name.

Well, I'm in trouble. This doesn't seem like a good ATA question, and since I have no idea, the DD won't help, either. But let's go down swinging and use ATA, hoping to get one strong response or two relatively even ones for the DD. Did Kevin Johnson play for the Kings?

Considering how they are usually hard thats kinda why I had to declare a Nihil obstat® (I hope I did that right.) Doing a lab every week in Chem and dealing with mL in each of those labs makes it easier to visualize 5mL.

Johnson was drafted by the Cavs, as a challenger to Mark Price's starting job. When Price won the job, Johnson was traded during the season to the Suns, along with Mark West and Tyrone Corbin, for Larry Nance and Mike Sanders.

The teams also exchanged draft picks, and the Suns used their pick to draft Thunder Dan Majerle.

I find that sometimes they have relatively easy stacks until the 25,000 dollar question. Then when the 25 grand hits I find myself saying, yes, I have all three lifelines, but who would know this? I guess the question writers were banking that the teaspoon question, was a "who would know this kind of question."

It would be easy math, except for the pressure of the clock. Most people know that a liter is a little more than a quart, so call it 33 ounces. There's 3 teaspoons in a tablespoon and 2 tablespoons in an ounce, so a liter is roughly 33 x 6 or about 200 teaspoons. A liter is 1000 ml, so that makes it about 5 ml to a teaspoon. Seems easy enough, though Patricia Heaton would probably think otherwise.

I agree. I could never do the above math in 30 seconds without paper and pencil.

fwiw, I think there will be less wwoq from now on, for imho they have taken away 2 of the three lifelines. An "expert" is not a fair exchange for a phone a friend. And double dip is not a fair exchange for the 50/50, especially for those afraid to dare, but maybe would dare if there were only two choices to choose from. Two good lifelines gone, with a clock ticking down to boot. Fairness would seem to dictate, that the questions be a little easier now.

The problem, then, is that such calls do not address an opposition audience so much as they signal virtue. They talk past those who need convincing. They ignore actual facts and counterargument. And they are irreparably smug.
