Today's show had...
Two separate contestants introduced, and they both completed their runs in the hot seat before the first commercial break!
That has to be a new record!

And then...
another one gone before the second commercial break!
Wow!

It can happen to anybody. You think you know the answer, and you think you don't need a lifeline, but you're just plain wrong.
But three times in a row is uncanny.

Wait 'til the second or third week in February (unless they shuffle the games around for sweeps). One show will nearly make you sick to your stomach, unfortunately.

One benefit of having a parade of players: 29 questions
I subscribe to the USA Today, so I knew the contestant was dead in the water. It served him right though for going with the audience on a 35-30% split.

I actually went back to make sure Mere was wearing the same clothes for the whole show.

My son and I both felt that the Newspaper question was a total rip off. I get our local paper every day by monthly subscription and have no idea of the daily newstand rate.
I thought this should have been at least a $25,000. question and obviously by the audience response, they didn't have any idea either.

Isn't the price printed every day at the top of the front page? It seems valid to ask if you noticed the price.

I must confess (no pun intended, Ed

) that I was amazed at watching the (figurative) carnage wrought by today's stacks of questions. As to the newspaper question, the masthead of the Courier-Journal indicates that it costs 50 cents, but if one buys a paper from one of the newspaper racks across the city, the cost is 75 cents (emblazoned across the front of the rack) - evidently because people were paying the 50 cents and taking two or three copies.
As to the USA Today, the only time I read it is if I'm traveling and the hotel has a complimentary copy (just as the contestant mentioned) and had I not know the cost would have been as confused as he - who reads the masthead after all?

Um, maybe people who are good at trivia? In Austin, the Sunday newspaper has an official price of $1.60, which is what I pay if I buy it at the 7-11, but if I buy it from the rack, it costs six quarters. I am aware of both prices. I've never heard of the C-J charging 75 cents for a 50 cent newspaper. Did they actually announce that this is their policy, to compensate for people stealing extra copies? Sounds like bad PR, and almost a tacit permission for people to grab extra copies.

No, that's my guess as to why they're doing it. If you buy it from a vendor (a convenience store, for example) it's still 50 cents. And some of the racks in town still charge only 50 cents. But many of the racks, particularly downtown, charge 75 cents. The masthead still reads "50 cents" however.

I recently discovered one can purchase the local Sunday paper (normally $1.75), for $1 at the Dollar Store.
