I haven't caught up with everything yet, but wanted to send a big hug to the Camaro Clan from all of us.

Thanks! We love hugs, but Annie loves them more than anybody.

Hugs from here too.

Casey brought her newest Christmas present toy over and dropped it at my feet, then went over and plopped down by the fireplace where she's sound asleep. I'm assuming that she's donating it to Annie to help her feel better.

If I thought it would work, I'd send it.

I'm glad...cause I love giving hugs!

Big squishy hugs from Kansas City to SC, Annie & the rest of the Camaro Family! :D

BTW, my new nephew Markey (rescued from a Springer Spaniel rescue league) is sending his warm good wishes, sniffs, and tail-wags all the way from Massachusetts to Oklahoma for his newest cyber pal, Annie!

When I get his picture, I will show you all his sweet furry face!

Annie was on my mind all weekend. I hope she's doing well, and her mom, too.

I'm going over to see her in just a little bit. I'll be back cheering or fretting, so I'll let you know which.

Okay, I'm fretting.

Her leg is swollen again, which may mean the infection is back. She did not make an effort to stand. She's usually happy, but she's not happy this afternoon. I don't know whether that means she needs more pain medication or if the infection is winning.

I called the vet techs' attention to her leg. They promised to have the vet look at her again ASAP.

Having noted with interest Pea's assumption of the role of "patient advocate" for members of her family in health care, I decided I could be Annie's patient advocate today in a more direct way than pointing out the swollen leg to the vet tech.

I called her regular vet, who was at a different clinic than where Annie had spent the weekend. (The dog has been under more roofs in the past two weeks than I have.) I intended to tell him everything I observed. I couldn't talk to him. He already had left to see Annie.

I like that guy a lot.

I'm sorry Annie has had a bit of setback, but it does sound like she is in good hands.

I'll be happy to help you towards a nice gift basket for him. I'm serious. Annie is my roommate you know. I owe her. :D

Annie, please get better. You are one of the best-writ animals with a human amanuensis, ever.

Please. I am not Annie's secretary, except for that one day of QoD when I relayed the questions. She wouldn't trust me to spell everything correctly.

The vet called.

He has given Annie more pain medication and a different antibiotic. In the meantime, he's doing a culture of the worst wound, just to make sure that some funky, super-evil bacteria isn't involved. He has debrided her wounds to remove the remaining dead tissue. Tissue granulation has begun! Hurray!

He will call the veterinary surgeon this afternoon or early this morning for the "official" referral on skin grafts.

Now, all we have to do is get her out of today's depression. Everybody think happy thoughts and dog jokes into the inside of Annie's eyelids.

Poor Annie. She probably just misses you and is sick of being in the clinic.

OK, some dog jokes for Annie:

How Many Dogs Does It Take to Change a Light Bulb?

Golden Retriever: The sun is shining, the day is young, we've got our whole lives ahead of us, and you're inside worrying about a stupid burned-out light bulb?

Border Collie: Just one. And I'll replace any wiring that's not up to code.

Dachshund: I can't reach the stupid lamp!

Toy Poodle: I'll just blow in the Border collie's ear and he'll do it. By the time he finishes rewiring the house, my nails will be dry.

Rottweiler: Go Ahead! Make me!

Shi-tzu: Puh-leeze, dah-ling. Let the servants. . .

Lab: Oh, me, me!!! Pleeeeeeze let me change the light bulb! Can I? Can I? Huh? Huh? Can I?

Malamute: Let the Border collie do it. You can feed me while he's busy.

Cocker Spaniel: Why change it? I can still pee on the carpet in the dark.

Doberman Pinscher: While it's dark, I'm going to sleep on the couch.

Mastiff: Mastiffs are NOT afraid of the dark.

Hound Dog: ZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZ

Chihuahua: Yo quiero Taco Bulb.

Pointer: I see it, there it is, right there...

Greyhound: It isn't moving. Who cares?

Australian Shepherd: Put all the light bulbs in a little circle...

Old English Sheep Dog: Light bulb? Light bulb? That thing I just ate was a light bulb?

Advocates make all the difference.

You will turn this ship.

I just know it.

wintergreen's joke was very funny. I did take offense for cocker spaniels everywhere.

I believe that's true. In this case, however, the vet had done all of that -- everything I wanted and more -- before he even knew I had tried to call. Perhaps he's been around dogs so long that I managed to think it all to the inside of his eyelids.

Or perhaps I simply was wanting all the right things because I've spent too darn much time in vets' offices.
