House Insurance Question

#1 Post by peacock2121 » Sun Jan 06, 2008 10:07 am

My m-i-l lives in Punta Gorda. She has had her car and home insurance with Nationwide for forever. They have just declined to renew the insurance policy on her home.

She has asked if I have any thoughts on where she should look to get a new policy. I thought about suggesting she ask her neighbors and that just is not gonna happen.

So, I thought some of yuo might have ideas.

Anyone?

How far is she from the coast?

If she is within 3 miles, she'll problably have to go to Citizen's Insurance - the state run insurer. Few if any of the voluntary insurers are adding to coastal exposure - many are trying to manage their exposure down lik e she is finding out.

Basically she nees to work the phone - no one really wants this in Fla.

GTG has the right advice. The state assigned companies are more than likely the only ones that will write a policy.

Her agent should be able to lead her in the right direction and might be able to do it himself as a licensed agent.

Thanks for both of your advice.

Sting spoke with her yesterday and decided he would handle it when we are down there next month.

I love it when I can hand a problem over.
