I like the discussion on the FJ betting strategy. Sounds like a contender in this year's tournament.

That was a gutsy move for the leader to bet small! Does this count as a win for your Conjecture, Bob?

And I was surprised that FJ was a triple-stumper. With such an weird question, how could it be anything but the obvious answer?

I don't know if it was mentioned on this forum yet, but Jason Thweatt won $32,000 on PTBAM in 2001.

I thought the name sounded vaguely familiar.

Today's J! show was worth watching, if you like train wrecks. I think anyone who hopes to be a contestant ought to study this episode as an example of how easily things can go wrong. Knowing when not to ring in is just as important as knowing when to ring in.

There was also some horrible wagering on FJ.

Yes. Whether a game counts as a win for my Conjecture, though, is independent of the leader's actual bet. To determine the Conjecture's success or failure, one needs to compare a leader's hypothetical bet that's consistent with my Conjecture with a second hypothetical bet equal to the traditional shut-out bet.

In this case, if he had made the substantially larger wager that my Conjecture recommends, he still would have won, but if he had made the traditional shut-out bet, he'd have lost. That's why the game is a win for my Conjecture.

Holy crap! Alex tried to make her feel better by telling her "Oh, you were just up against 2 guys who were quick on the button.....etc." No! She was plenty quick on the button -- she just kept giving wrong answers! You don't get $6000 in the hole by not ringing in! :(

BTW -- I knew FJ -- don't know how I knew it; apparently I read it somewhere a long time ago & it floated up to my brain when needed.

I found out from another bored that Heather was only 4 weeks post-partum when she taped that show -- she was in labor when she got the call! Just bad timing for her. Too bad.
