OK, I'm going to cut her some slack- this was wicked for $5,000, because the "once per wiggled toe" is both superfluous and confusing (actually, if you think about it, the question was simply asking "how many toes do (most) humans have on one foot?)

P.S. The was shock at this very odd situation of being lenient with the rules costing Jane $3,000, not shock at Bob being right.

No, the executive producer made the decisions to change the format of the show and to make the questions harder, but he doesn't make specific casting decisions. (Except to tell them, "Never put a guy like Bob Juch on the show again!")

There but for the grace of God go I. I nearly missed a $200 nursery rhyme question during my appearance a few years back but I pause, took my time and realized the correct answer was "This Little Piggy." If the clock had been in play, I might have become a llama.

I concur with the opinion that poor Jane was stiffed out of $3,000.

When we had the preparatory "rules refresher" in the green room, this rule was summarized as "you're okay as long as you START your answer before the clock runs out and you say "final" in the same breath."

Obviously the standard legalese is present in the fine print such they can defend their actions, but I'd agree this was a bit slimy on the part of the producers...

I think this is a tough call. For example, if she said 5 beat/pause final and TPTB said she was to slow on the final or paused - and she had to leave with 3K - do you think that would have been the fair result - or do you think in that case she should continue up the stack? If you think she should have continued, then, ISTM, that we need to accept the zero dollar decision.

Does anyone else but me think this was a wickedly worded question for $5K/15 seconds to think, with the superfluous and confusing "once per wiggled toe" phrase added at the end?

Who the hell writes these questions? I'm a pretty wordy person, and sometimes make very weird sentence constructions, but even I wouldn't have come up with something like that!

That smells a bit. The first 747 went into service in 1970 and Kristofferson was a big deal by then.

I totally agree about the wording. Way too convoluted. Unfortunately, the convolution may have occurred as a result of trying to add the hint of once per toe. On one hand, I'm sympathetic. On the other hand, if one has watched enough shows and becomes a contestant, one should be prepared in the first tier to take a breath, look for the key phrase and obvious clue, which Meredith invariably repeats, and either nail it or grasp a lifeline. Not that I don't loathe TDC, but it was far from insurmountable in this case.

However, the question need not have been any more complicated than:

Corresponding to each of a child's toes, how many little piggies are mentioned in the nursery rhyme "This Little Piggy?"

If the writers had to mention the wiggilng, then

Typically mentioned one at a time as each of a child's toes are wiggled, how many little piggies are in the nursery rhyme "This Little Piggy?"

Bottom Line: They really owe all the llamas/piggies/owls a llamarama this season.

No, because it eliminates a contestant (or BB on this Bored) from complaining, "Well,the way that I learned the nursery rhyme was . . . ."

For example, in my family, you say "little piggy" seven times, as you say for the little toe, "This little piggy, this little piggy right here, this cute little piggy right here" before tickling the toddler all of the way up to their chin area.
