A newspaper reporter gets it right (and avoids that poor old "overexposure" scapegoat):

Just when you thought it had entered the history books, "The Apprentice" (9 p.m., NBC) returns, and this time it's a celebrity version.

The presence of boldface name and/or notorious players from the game's fabled past always seems to sound like a good idea to the producers of well-worn game shows and reality fare. But they rarely please audiences. It was the emergence of celebrity players on the old "Who Wants to be a Millionaire" that took some of the luster off that game show after it rocked the ratings world back in 1999.

While we like to root for a relative stranger to win big cash prizes, or for an ingenue to get the big job with The Donald, why should we care about somebody who has already had his or her own 15 minutes of fame? And sorry, the fact that they're playing for charity makes the emotional stakes even lower.

Thought? Hoped and prayed is more like it. Most of these "reality" shows are what the infinite number of monkeys first created while we're still waiting for that script of Hamlet they're aiming for.

Too bad the WGA didn't let the monkeys into the union. :P

This may sound like I have no taste, but I actually enjoyed this edition of The Apprentice. When the guys were planning strategy to sell the hot dogs and Gene Simmons simply looked at them and got out his cell and called his friends (uh, dealers) and tell them to bring $5,000 to buy a hot dog was priceless. And Omarosa can certainly hold her own ... you can't deny she deserves her 15 minutes. I can't stop watching when she's on.

Sheesh! I guess that's good for a laugh--right up there with celebrity Hot Seaters having their celebrity friends in the ROF calling out the answers.
