Boy, was the Expert way off base on the $25K question. I was laughing at the TV. I knew the answer thanks to watching the National Spelling Bee last year-they are very helpful giving the definition of the word the kid is trying to spell. Also, this was a BB discussion topic the following day. Actors as experts probably are NOT a good idea.

Robert Wuhl admits he does not know at all.

Robert really seemed torn on this one. He started talking about analyzing the roots of the word, which was a perfectly reasonable thing to do. But then, not being able to come up with anything, his comedian background asserted itself, as he started to make up some BS about these supposed roots. Then he realized that his effort wasn't helping the contestant and wasn't particularly funny, so he gave up the effort after a few seconds. At least, that's how it was edited.

This is a stack I am really happy I wasn't among the annointed, chosen to play:

12.5K: OK, I've never seen any of the movies in any of these series, but I know enough Terminator & Matrix lore by now to think it isn't either of them. Although it could be Matrix? Nah. ATA anyway.

15K: I'd have ATAed up there instead of double-dipped, & I'd be really sorry, because here's another pop culture question, using the term "culture" loosely. I don't shop for men's clothes, if this is in fact a men's clothes line. I still dunno. I have never heard of this person. Since it turns out they're a tattooer, why would I? ATE, without much hope, but they're a man so if its men's clothes, maybe they do know. Otherwise hold nose & double-dip. I was pretty sure it wasn't a skateboarder, & that's about it.

25K: Now, I'd probably never have gotten to this point, but I did know this one. Not because I use this word a lot in everyday conversation, but because various sources, including this board, did go over the top 5 or so killer words in last year's Spelling Bee.

Unfortunately, the teen-movie-going shops-a-lot contestant, who aced those questions that would have felled me even though they didn't know King Solomon (10K Q) from beans, didn't know this one.
