WWTBAM Bored

I registered a day before my episodes aired, and I had been waiting for a confirmation email...admittedly, without even trying to log in until just now. Clyde Wheeler sent me a Facebook message and told me I was quite an interesting topic of conversation over here. So I've been lurking for a couple of days.

I don't want to say it's hurtful, 'cause ultimately they're just words from people I will never meet, but it's strange reading around this message board and on members' Twitter pages and seeing that other people found me irritating and "more annoying than those dummies on Catch 21"...especially since I've received nothing but love and support from everyone who's seen the show.

I'd like to take a second and explain: The energy in the studio is so thick, you can feel it all around you. The excitement is almost too much to even fathom, as I'm sure any other former contestant can attest to. And after two years of trying and failing, and trying and failing, and trying and failing...words can't even express how excited I was to finally be on the show of my dreams. The excitement took over, and I'm sorry for anyone who misinterprets that as being annoying, but rest assured, there was no schtick, there was no acting, there was none of that. I was DAMN excited. And that's it. As a 20-year-old college student, $15,000 is more money than I have ever seen in my entire life. Wouldn't YOU be excited?

Yes, I would. And congratulations on your run. And thank you for not blowing us all off just because some people are the equivalent of talk radio fans who spend all morning on hold just so they can be made fun of by Colin Cowherd.

Great to hear from you. Like I told you before, I really enjoyed hanging around you in the green room (when you weren't snoring) and watching you in the hot seat. There are a lot of nice and interesting people on this bored (sometimes both) so I hope you stick around and give your feedback on occasion.

I say that as someone who hasn't posted in the thread. Yet anyway.

The thing is, some of us have been trying to get on as long or almost as long as the show has aired. I personally failed my only "round 2" callback (where you had to get 5 questions in a row right, unless everybody failed them all, that is) of the phone game, then got on the show via the 2nd round of auditions they ever had after failing the "charm us enough" segment (I've only flunked 2 of something like 11 or 14; I've lost count of actual tests) of the 1st round, both of which were for the "fastest finger" Prime Time version of the show. I didn't win the fastest finger on either of my tries at it, the one time I was allowed on the show. And after that I've been persona non grata in their audition process.

So you can see why some people are suspicious of what looks like "audition-winning schtick" in the current audition-direct-to-the-hot-seat show.

Anyway.

I only saw your second show, and watching you and your brother made me smile out loud. You are one of my favorite contestants ever. Sorry you didn't win more money, but as you say, $15,000 is a good chunk of change ($14,000 more than I ended up with).

Very understandable. To be honest, my audition tape was as sedate as it possibly could have been. I talked about myself, how much I love the show, my then-job, and what I would do with the money. Did the whole video in my work uniform.

I wish I had saved it; I'd show you guys.

Let me say I loved your enthusism. I taped my Millionaire appearence at the end of July 2008 (one of the first few episodes with the major rule changes - clock, expert, topic tree, etc - but I was lucky to still have the PAF - my show aired the end of September), and like many a folk to occupy the H.S. it was the fullfilment of a lifelong dream. One of the things I was determined to do was have a the best time possible - and although I may not have expressed it with the same level of enthusism, my whole time there I was happier than a .... (feel free to fill in the appropriate analogy).

I discovered the bored after finding out I was in the contestant pool but prior to getting The Call. I can personally say that one of the best things about being selected for Millionaire was finding this place. They have been hugely supported and its been a great outlet, so I hope you hang around and enjoy the madness. Also, if you care we all would love to hear from you anything about the whole experience, from tryouts, time on the show, what was going on during your game play, post play thoughts and anything else that you think would be of interest. Make it as long or as short as you like - but it is fun to read what other contestants have gone through.

As an aside, I spent a number of years living and working in New Haven (specifically 1986 to 1988) and two of my kids were born at Yale-New Haven hospital.

Its also good advice to some of us (myself included I admit) who might otherwise be motivated to do an "as zany as possible" audition tape, if they allow tape submissions next year. I would also like to point out my video was also quite sedated. I only made a couple of small jokes and it was as low tech as possible. I'm not sure what TPTB are looking for, I am pretty much the same goofy, outgoing self most of the time, but I failed the in-person auditions, too.
If anyone wants to see my video , let me know. It's nothing special but if it helps a BB get on the show I will be very proud.

And I live in Stratford, CT. There is another BB (Bored Buddy) from Stratford as well.

Stick around for a while. This place grows on you. So does mold but ignore that for now.

There are terrific people here along with an odd assortment of others. Some odder than others. I tend to ignore the political stuff to minimize my irritation, but that is just me.

I did get to see the end of your run as I went home for lunch to watch Clyde. Enjoy the money!

Dude, I totally feel you, though I didn't watch your episode because I'm, like, not watching the show anymore.......but you won 15K under these conditions, and that is a huge achievement. You should be excited. Good for you.

Different people, different situations, different expectations.

I'm sorry I judged him without knowing him, but for me, personally?

I can't get worked up over $15,000...or even $25,000.

My personal expectations are higher.

Since I'm really the one who ignited the stream of comments, I'm most definitely glad to see you here but I'm not going to retract my comments or opinions, especially after seeing the Price video from years past. That's how I feel and, hey, I'm sure some people felt similarly about my personality on any of my game show activities.
