I like this! I made it through level 8. I wish there were a way to make the map bigger. It's hard to find countries the size of a comma!
I will try again when I have a little more time.

That was fun and informative. On my first try I completed level 11 but it said I didn't score high enough to see level 12. That was partly because of stuff I didn't know and partly because I use a laptop with a "TrackPoint," which is much slower and less accurate than a mouse. Even when it appeared that I nailed the exact location, it still said I was at least 50 or 100 km away. The ones that killed me were mostly former Soviet countries and obscure cities within large countries.
My Travel IQ was 121.

P.S. Nice to see you, Peter! You've been away too long.

That was fun, and uh, humbling.
I did get an IQ of 110, 355,845 pts. and through level 10. Said I needed 50,000 more points to get to level 11. Damn small west African nations that sound like something that should be in South American or Etritrea, that should be in Europe.

Managed to get into level 11 both times I tried with 510,654 points and an "IQ" of 126 on the second try but couldn't get past that level. Need at least 55,000 to proceed to level 12. Fell just short with 50 something thousand each time. Not too surprising as I do make an effort to keep my geography knowledge sharp.
But it is a bit unfair bacause as SC points out it is very difficult to see some countries and I can't even see most of the islands in the Pacific which it seems to like asking about at the higher levels. If I could at least see the islands groups I might be able to get to level 12. And the speed requirement makes me click in the wrong spot inadvertantly as I try to squint to see the dang thing! Would definitely help if it were a bit bigger.

Although it seems to be overly PC in refering to Taiwan as a "province" of China. The red chinese may think so (but then they want control of pretty much everything in reach, just ask the Tibetans...), along with the lily livered UN but I doubt the Tiawanese would agree.

I'd like to see all political parties choose their candidates based on their performance on this quiz. Instead of staging lame debates, just televise each person as he or she plays this game. That would be very revealing. And just for fun, let's televise George W. Bush playing this game. That should have been part of the annual State of the Union address.

Managed to make make level 12 finally thanks to a little practice in locating the noseeum pacific island nations (seems to really like the Carribean as well but those I know pretty well already.
But failed to get the required 60000 points needed to complete level 12. Seemed to have an inordinate fascination with obscure Indian cities and western Russia in that last round which makes it tough. If they give a smaller country even if you aren't sure you can get fairly close by clicking in the middle of the country. Not as easy with large countries.
Not having state and province boundaries in the US and especially Canada also makes it a little harder as well. Clearly need to brush up on my West African geography as well.

I got to level 11 on my first try but I missed level 12 by 4,818 points.
I'll have to give this a try again tomorrow.

I agree the easy ones were easy, but holy cow! I'm with y'all who object to hitting an island you can't even see.
I was delighted to finish Level 6 and will rest on that nonlaurel.

It's a fun game. I sent the link to Maddie and she sent it to some of her Quiz Bowl friends.

Incidentally, for those of you playing the game in anticipation of the great reward at getting through Level 12, don't bother. It just puts up a very modest "congratulations."
If I were designing it, I would have had it display:
"OK, nerd, goody for you. Now go away, and get a life."

Level 12 on my second try but I didn't quite complete Level 12.
IQ of 131 with 553,959 points. South Atlantic islands were the killers for me this time.
I think I'll try again tomorrow.

Wow! That's really good. The best I did was level 10, but I got killed on the African Countries.

I used to teach geography among other things and, yes, I'm a nerd.
I'll admit that I want to see that "Congratulations" for completing level 12.

Thanks, Peter, that was the best online geography quiz I've ever seen!
Finished Level 12 on my first and only try, with a final IQ of 136. Point total: 606,942.
Would've done better but I missed Reunion Island in the final round by like an entire hemisphere.
I love geography!

I made Level 4 and was thrilled! Seriously.
I did manage to come within 5 kilomoters of Bejing and 1(!) kilometer of the Eiffel tower, though.
I made it to Level 8 on the USA one. I know, big whoop, I live here. Ha!

I can see that this is going to be something that I'll need to do at home as it will be too much fun (and too much addiction) at work.
All I need is Internet access.

This little girl has the potential to do very well on this quiz once she knows her cities.
