Annie update

"She's wagging her tail."

The vet is keeping Annie close. He took her from the day clinic to the emergency vet center last night, and brought her back to the clinic this morning. She has infection in several areas, which is not surprising, but the smaller wounds appear to be healing well. He believes that she probably will start sloughing additional tissue where the wounds were most severe, and she may need skin grafting down the line. He intends to call a veterinary surgeon for advice or referral when the time comes. (One thing I love about this guy is that he's not reluctant to approach the top specialists, such as he did when he called the world's foremost veterinary oncologist when Ashley had lymphoma.)

Annie won't be able to come back home in the immediate future, but she's eating and drinking again. I will go visit her later today -- and every day, unless my leaving without her begins to create additional anxiety for her. In the meantime, "She's in good spirits," and the old tail is doing its job.

This is a great advance in outlook and information over yesterday, when all I could find out was that she was still alive.

Under circumstances that remain unclear, she was attacked by a larger dog.

Gentle scritches for Annie. And some {{{{{hugs}}}}} for you!

Ear, there were a dreadful series of posts full of bad news while you were out sick last week. You might want to catch up on some of them.

I'm not sure I'm up to reading a lot of bad news. I prefer the good news, like TheConfessor's report about the fire that he avoided.

Hopefully, between that and the arrival of TLITF's baby son, we've turned the corner in the news department.

Yeah, let's hope so - I could use a large dose of good news right about now.

Yes, tail wagging is good. We're starting to get more of that from Midnight, too. Our two- and four-footers wish Annie a speedy recovery.

I went for my visit. She was in an enormous cage -- probably six feet wide, four feet deep, and at least four feet high, with a thick comforter on the floor. I told her she had the luxury suite. She was happy to see me, but perhaps just a tiny bit annoyed at my timing, because she was eavesdropping with seemingly great interest on a conversation between vet techs when I came in. A couple of her drain tubes have been removed.

She licked my face between the cage wires, and I kissed back on her wet nose. They said I could open the door, but I knew that if I did, she would try to get out. Under no circumstances do I want to be pushing her away for any reason.

Bless your heart. It's a difficult time, but you and Annie have weathered worse and come through with flying colors. Hugs.

Nope, but if we find a 30-ft. moat, we may be on to something.

This made my morning!

Wagging her tail will soon be followed by wagging her entire butt.
