Congrats to you Gordon, very entertaining contestant. Your last question makes me wonder if they pick these questions specifically for the contestant. Knowing how much you read and what your interests are, I almost felt like you were "set up" with that question, considering JD Robb, a pen name for Nora Roberts who writes romance, does her mysteries using a pen name which has always made me wonder why. This was a question for a bored housewife who reads a lot, lol, and would never be in a stack of questions for someone who would fit in that life slot. Also makes me think that they are not really trying to get that million dollar winner, it was just a dumb question to have at the $50,000 level for a professional man.

Congrats, Gordon. I read a lot and never heard of this author or her books. They truly don't want a winner. They're only looking for $7,500. winners but I'm glad you took them for more. It was a very gutsy move and it took a Jipter to actually take them for $25,000. Great job!!!

The trouble with these book questions is that a jackass like me looks at them and thinks "She's a huge bestseller. That's really not that obscure." I keep forgetting that popular literature is a niche category. Cf., the Tuesday and Wednesday J! online tests. Working at Barnes and Noble gives me a huge advantage in that area.

Ultimately, you came down on the wrong side of a 50/50, but you looked great doing it Gordon. Well done.

Great job, Gordon! I think you had an excellent run in the HS and one of the few to make it to the top tier since the death of PAF.
I would've played the 1st part of your stack identically to you (great minds think alike and I guess ours do, too.) I did know JD Robb was Nora Roberts but I have never read any of her books. I would've guessed In Death, maybe because passing her books in a bookstore or Costco and subconsciously I saw the name and it stuck somewhere.
Great run and you should be proud! Now hopefully you get a chance to enjoy WDW soon.

And she is a "housewife", but far from bored.

And you'd be amazed what types of question stacks she could handle.

From what I've seen, Kate Snow is another in a line of quasi-celebrity "experts". She may be a journalist but that doesn't qualify her to be much of an expert. If they're going to do away with PAF, then for crying out loud, give us some REAL experts, like Ogi, hermillion, Ken Jennings, etc.

I guess it's true - quantum tunneling doesnt allow for the transmission of information. Otherwise you'd have picked up my retroactive telepathic (and vocal) signals. Though I've never read any of Robb's (Roberts') works I've heard enough about them to know this. I also know that they are quasi-science fiction (taking place in the near future). But you won $25K and lived the dream. Congrats on a good run.

Congrats Gordon! Glad to see you were able to get past the eye troubles and the last minute removal of the PAF lifeline to take a good chunk of change from them. Hope you can finally make that trip to WDW!

Sorry you got stopped here, Gordon. The upper tier is looking more and more like some fabled territory that nobody ever really gets to see.

As for Kate's comment about trying to reason out the titles, I've glanced at Robb's title list over at Amazon and they don't seem to make much sense, either.

I looked at that list too.

I noticed her two latest works are entitled "The Lost" and "Big Jack".

No "In Death" in those titles that I can see.

Of course, those both came out after the episode was taped.

I certainly was not trying to throw insults at your wife, only myself. Why am I not surprised that your wife, like myself, reads Nora or JD whichever you wish to call her. What would have surprised me was if Gordon, a working professional man, had enough time and leisure that he read an author who's writing appeals to mostly women.

Some of you have mentioned cases as to why you know who JD Robb is, but not many. I know a great many women who could have answered that question, can't think of a single man though.

Well- I could have.

But only because we have the books all over the house!!

Gordon, I read a lot of mystery type books and this is one author I have not read, nor could I have come up with this answer.

I did go home to watch and am very glad I did.

Congrats on getting to the HotSeat and fulfilling the quest.

50K: I had never heard of author nor series. Ulp. I would ATA, & unless they had a big spike for one choice, ATE. And unless they had a big spike for one choice, pick the choice I thought would make the best title word if I were writing the series. I was going for "Secret", same as gsabc.

I suspect that if you had had PAF, you'd have used it on the boysenberry Q.

In which case you'd have had double dip left to use on this Q, which would have given you a 1-in-2 shot instead of 1-in-4. That's life, & BAM's TPTB at work.
