And so it begins.... the Winter 2008 edition of Lyrically Speaking! Well, so it's still 2007 for the next 17 hours or so... nothing wrong with getting a head start.

Today is Monday, so it's time for the first of our 9 Match Game Monday games. If you haven't read the rules I posted Friday (Or your eyes are still glazed over from doing so), the way this works is the 12 songs below can be matched into 6 pairs based on some common theme. Some of the themes will be easy, some will be downright hard. We're going to start with a very simple theme....

1 point for the correct title, 1 point for the correct artist, and 1 point for each correct match... and you may guess at the matches of even the songs you do not know....

1. I've seen it before
It happens all the time
Closing the door
You leave the world behind

2. She's laughing inside 'cause they can't refuse
She's so beautiful now, she doesn't wear her shoes

3. Funny faces
Full of love and laughter
Funny places
Summer nights and streetcars
Take me back

4. Just a little more time is all we're asking for
Cause just a little more time could open closing doors
Just a little uncertainty can bring you down

5. Oh, she loves me so
She hates to be alone
She don't eat meat
But she sure like the bone

6. Once I used to join in
every boy and girl was my friend.
Now there's revolution, but they don't know
what they're fighting.

7. See the paper lying on the sidewalk
A little music from the house next door
So I walk on up to the door step
Through the screen and across the floor

8. Why not think about times to come
And not about the things that you've done
If your life was bad to you
Just think what tomorrow will do

9. Time, time, time
See what's become of me
While I looked around
For my possibilities

10. I ain't gonna cry, no
And I won't beg you to stay
If you're determined to leave boy
I will not stand in your way

11. No one knows who she is or what her name is
I don't know where she came from or what her game is

12. Well I'm heavenly blessed and worldly wise
I'm a peeping-tom techie with x-ray eyes

1. I've seen it before
It happens all the time
Closing the door

COLD AS ICE - FOREIGNER

2. She's laughing inside 'cause they can't refuse
She's so beautiful now, she doesn't wear her shoes
LET'S GO - THE CARS

3. Funny faces
Full of love and laughter
Funny places
Summer nights and streetcars
Take me back
I know it's by Chicago, but I don't know the name of the damn thing

4. Just a little more time is all we're asking for
Cause just a little more time could open closing doors
Just a little uncertainty can bring you down
Man, what an awful song - this is Corey Hart's "Never Surrender"

5. Oh, she loves me so
She hates to be alone
She don't eat meat
But she sure like the bone
I have not even the slightest clue

6. Once I used to join in
every boy and girl was my friend.
Now there's revolution, but they don't know
what they're fighting.
Living in the Past - Jethro Tull

7. See the paper lying on the sidewalk
A little music from the house next door
So I walk on up to the door step
Through the screen and across the floor
Wow, wow, wow, I thought the Corey Hart song was awful. This is "Summer Breeze" by Seals and Crofts

8. Why not think about times to come
And not about the things that you've done
If your life was bad to you
Just think what tomorrow will do
Don't Stop - Fleetwood Mac

9. Time, time, time
See what's become of me
While I looked around
For my possibilities
A Hazy Shade of Winter - Either the Bangles or Simon and Garfunkel

10. I ain't gonna cry, no
And I won't beg you to stay
If you're determined to leave boy
I will not stand in your way
I have no clue on this one

11. No one knows who she is or what her name is
I don't know where she came from or what her game is
Hot Child in the City - Nick Gilder

12. Well I'm heavenly blessed and worldly wise
I'm a peeping-tom techie with x-ray eyes
The Future's So Bright, I Gotta Wear Shades - Timbuk3

Ok. So for the matches, I'm thinking it's "opposites attract" day.
#1 matches with #11 (cold - hot)
#2 matches with #8 (stop - go, though "don't stop meaning something similar to "let's go" might throw some water on my theory)
#3 I don't know the name of the song. I will guess that it matches up with #10, which I am totally clueless on.
#4 I know the song, but don't have anything to match it with. The other song I don't know is #5, so I'll match those 2.
#5 see above
#6 matches with #12 (past - future)
#7 matches with #9 (summer - winter)
#8-#12 see above

I'm not sure which is worse, writing these things or playing them.

BTW, I will be posting the scoring and whatnot for December later on tonight.

that is that for today, although logically #3 is either about New Orleans or Toronto, and I would guess New Orleans.
