$15,000 * Up in the Sky
What celestial object was named in 1930, by an eleven-year-old girl named Venetia Burney?

A: Venus B: Saturn
C: Pluto D: Mercury

With 9 seconds left, Marcus decides to Ask The Expert. Today's expert is TV and radio personality Kennedy.

Kennedy: Alright, Marcus, let's win you some money!

[She reads the question and gives a wide-eyed look of puzzlement.]

Kennedy: I'm gonna go with Venus. We know it's not Pluto.

Marcus: You're gonna go with Venus? And what's the rationale for that?

Kennedy: Her name is Venetia.

Marcus: Okay.

Kennedy: And Venus is close to Venetia.

Marcus: Would you have thought that Venus would have been named before 1930?

Kennedy: Yes, because it's close to Earth, so we would have seen it. And it is bright. So I'm going to give you that. And, also, Pluto, we know, was named by Tombaugh. So, since Mercury is also close, I would say Saturn, if not Venus.

Marcus: Okay, I think I'm leaning toward Saturn, not Venus, too, but I appreciate that. Thank you, very much.

Kennedy: And Mercury is also bright, so we would see it in the sky.

Marcus: And Venus is very bright, called the Morning Star.

With 8 seconds left, Marcus decides to Double Dip.

Marcus's first answer is
Spoiler
B: Saturn
.
Marcus's second answer is
Spoiler
C: Pluto
.
Answer
C: Pluto ( 0 )
Note: Meredith says he got the answer in "just in the nick of time", although he stopped after saying the answer and it appears that the clock reached 0 as Meredith was asking "Final?".
Meredith asks Marcus why he didn't go with Venus.

Marcus: Well, like I was talking with Kennedy, Venus is right next to us. We've been looking at it for, like, ten thousand years! I knew that couldn't have been it. But she did a great job and I really appreciate it.

Meredith: Yeah, but she gave you some time to think about it.

Marcus: Yes, she did.

$25,000 * World Leaders
In 2005, Jalal Talabani became the first non-Arab to hold the post of president in what predominantly Arab nation?

A: Syria B: Iraq
C: Jordan D: Saudi Arabia

With 11 seconds left, Marcus decides to Phone A Friend.

Marcus's PAF team are Frank, Hensley, AR; Amanda, Little Rock, AR; and Michael, Teaneck, NJ.

Marcus calls Frank.

Frank: My guess would be Iraq. Jordan's run by a king. Syria's run by--other folks. I think it's Iraq.

Marcus: Thank you, Judge!

Frank: Okay!

Answer
B: Iraq ( 9 )
-- Commercial Break --

Meredith repeats yesterday's anecdote about how Marcus got The Call in a public bathroom and couldn't show excitement. Yesterday, she got him to show a little bit of excitement. Now that he's at $25,000, she want to see some serious excitement. Marcus raises his arms in the air and shouts, "Yes!"

$50,000 * Adjectives

A: Shopping B: Camping
C: Swimming D: Bicycling

It's a free guess and Marcus says
Spoiler
A: Shopping
.
Answer
B: Camping ( 11 )
Marcus leaves with $25,000.

Wow, these two rocket scientists are barking up the wrong planet.

I can eliminate C and D since they're both ruled by kings and would not have both a king and a president. Double Dip on A and B.

It has been years since I've seen "Schoolhouse Rock", but I would've made an educated guess on camping because of the word "Unpack" in the title of the cartoon.

It took me about four seconds to realize I remembered a line: It was a scary bear. It was a hairy bear.

What's even more astounding then Kennedy's cluelessness about Pluto is it's a $15,000 question. And unpack your adjectives is a $50,000 question? What activity do you unpack after? Sheesh.

Marcus was too polite, but Meredith finally acknowledged the one thing these celebrity "experts" are good for: stopping The Damned Clock!

At 50K, using the words in the clue assuming that they will provide hints to the answer can sometimes backfire, at least traditionally, they have. But what do I know, I'm just a Bill.

There are probably at least a few countries with kings that also have a president too although usually the head of government is a prime minister. Spain for example comes to mind (really serves in a prime minister kind of role but has the title of president). There are probably others although can't think of any others off the top of my head.

Most countries have both a monarch and a prime minister as is the case with both Jordan and Saudi Arabia although in Saudi Arabia the King and the Prime Minister happen to be the same person. Simplifies the decision process...

15K: OK, I knew this because I knew it, but somebody should be smacking Kennedy in the jaw right through the Skype.

50K: Camping is my guess, but I've never seen this show. ATA
