Bringing this out to another thread, 'cause it's good news.

Midnight will be coming home sometime today, depending on our schedule and her continued recovery. She is, to quote this morning's report, "eating up a storm", which makes me think that whatever was wrong had been building for a while. She had been irregular with her feedings - sometimes fine, sometimes skipping meals - for about a month. Bloat is supposed to have a sudden onset, but who knows if that was the complete issue?

So it looks like we'll have our big black sweetie around for a bit longer yet. Thank you for all the good wishes.

BTW, fwh got me "The Dangerous Books for Dogs" for Christmas, it is a must read for all dog lovers, it is a hoot!

Not an option. For one, her knees won't let her get up on it very easily. For another, it's a brand-new couch because she pretty much took over and ruined the old one over the years. GW won't allow it, much as she loves the dog. For thirds, Midnight will probably have to sleep in her portable kennel for a few days to keep her from tearing stitches. She won't be happy about not coming upstairs and sleeping in our (read: GW's. Definitely her dog.) room.

I am very glad that Midnight is coming home.

Can you put Midnight's portable kennel in your bedroom, so she can be in a familiar place when she sleeps?

A bit of a space issue in the bedroom - she's not a small dog and the kennel is fairly big. Plus the problem of getting her up and down the stairs, an issue even before the surgery with her arthritic knees. It still may happen, but some serious room rearranging will be necessary.

Welcome back to the old Midnight!

I love that name. I briefly had a back kitty named Midnight, who gave us a beautiful litter of four gorgeous calico kittens before she passed on -- PeachesAndCream, Stripe, PJ (for PlainJane, because she was less striking than the others), and ElRey because she had a big orange spot right on top of her head. Plus she had the most imperial bearing I've ever seen in a cat.

Thank goodness she is better now. May she continue to do well and recover fully. Give her a scritch for me.

Head scritches to Midnight!

As I said before, I never met a black Lab I didn't like. A friend of mine once had two of 'em. Whenever I went to visit, they would sit on either side of me and each would occasionally put their head on a knee, content to keep me company and protected as long as I wanted. They have since crossed over the Rainbow Bridge, but I still think back on them very fondly. They were extremely well-behaved and mighty good company.
