Lynn is fun to watch, clearly smart and good under pressure. e.g., you could tell from her face that she'd never heard of "currywurst" but she had no trouble immediately and confidently going for the obvious answer. Witness also her quick elimination process on the $12.5K Obituaries question to deduce another one she apparently didn't know.

In light of this, I was surprised that she "wasted" the ATE lifeline on the $15K Competitions question, rather than immediately noticing the two obvious choices and going right to the DD.

(Especially given how useless Ms. Poundstone has been as an expert.)

I blame the clock. Or perhaps she thought Paula might've heard of something so silly as the "World Sauna Championships."

I only see one obvious choice. What's the other one?

We ought to get her to come to our little corner of cyberspace.

FTR the Greek expression doesn't say "our daily bread", it says "our bread for tomorrow" (a reference to the manna that the Israelites received during the wilderness wanderings).

Gotta be Germany - they have so many different "wursts" already.

Paula was right, and Meredith's pique was uncharacteristic but appropriate.

I'd have thought any reasonable person would associate saunas with Scandinavia and since Finland is the only Scandinavian country on the list, it should have been the obvious answer.

Yeah, if she's a fanatic and she's online, why isn't she already here?

Indeed. Lynn should have recognized that and so should Paula. How very, very appropriate was Meredith's response. Did Paula give even one correct answer, last week?

I'm still rather puzzled about what the World Sauna Championships would involve, though. Is it an endurance event? Is there a speed factor for racing between the sauna and taking a dip in an icy lake? :?

From Wikipedia:

The championships begin with preliminary rounds and end in the finals, where the best six men and women see who can sit in the sauna the longest. The starting temperature in the men's competition is 110 ºC (230 °F). One liter of water is poured on the stove every 30 seconds. The winner is the last person to stay in the sauna and walk out without outside help.

Sounds like tons of fun.

110 ºC !?

I was thinking this was a sport I could enjoy, but that's a bit hotter than the saunas I'm used to.

Imagine going from that into the cryo chamber seen in last week's TAR episode! :o

Sounds like the polar opposite of southnyack's winter dip in the Hudson.

so far so good.

My next stop after the world sauna championship would be either the emergency ward or the morgue. I hate saunas. And high humidity wherever I encounter it.

Since neither Hindus nor Muslims care for pork sausage, I wouldn't think India would be much of a distractor.

Maybe Nelly first locked in on the Curry, then looked at the pork sausage and "wurst" when India did not come up.
