Anyone else find it ironic that the question the audience missed two years ago was about a cancelled TV show with Eliza Dushku?
She had a hit last season, on a Friday of all nights, but most viewers forgot to tune in for Season Two, so...
The Number Three - The New 'Axis Of Evil'.

I seriously doubt that the llamas had anything to do with the ToT but it is interesting (to me at least) that the thread you referenced was the very first thread I ever posted to on the bored.
Also, a little while ago there was a thread about a contestant who blogged that they had llama'd and he even made an appearence on the bored, IIRC. Was that the same contestant?

perhaps this will become clear to me when I transcribe the whole show tonight, but in the llama aftermath he blurts:
"I was thinking of the-"[edit]
and the YouTube caption talks about misreading the question.
I don't get it, i.e. how did he misread the question?

I think he might have been thinking about the shade of the Nala character as opposed to which name is also a shade of yellow.

The contestant posted here as TheOmnipotentQ and he taped October 1. This may have been him -- I think the timing is about right. --Bob

Two things...first, what's a "llama" and I'm not referring to the furry animals indigenous to South America. Obviously, I know it's someone who didn't have quite the hot seat experience they'd hoped for, but I can't quite figure out the acronym. Second, if someone taped on October 1, I'm guessing their episode(s) won't be airing until next week or early December. Someone I know taped in late September and her episodes aired this week.

It's no acronym; it refers to one of the first contestants who guessed wrong early and left with less than the $1,000 safe haven.
The question was, what animal did Hannibal use to cross the Alps and score a major victory over the Romans. The contestant confidently answered llamas -- bzzt! Back to zero. And the llama nickname.

A llama is a played who leaves the show with nothing, having missed on a very early question. It especially refers to someone who misses on question one. It's not an acronym. It refers to the first player in the Regis version of the show to miss his very first question. When asked what animal Hannibal used to cross the Alps, he guessed "llama", and the name stuck.

That was the infamous Robby Roseman. He used the 50/50 prior to answering, but that only reinforced his incorrect recollection.
He was one of the in-audience guests during August's 10th Anniversary shows.
ETF: corrected spelling from Bobby to Robby...

Thanks so much for refreshing my memory! I hate it when that happens to someone and had managed to bury that question deep in my brain. On the other hand, the "Tru Calling" question, I remember vividly...colorful contestant plus I actually knew the answer because I was apparently one of a handful of folks who actually watched the show!

There are a few Eliza Dushku fans on the Bored. Not enough to save "Dollhouse," though...

I watched my first segment today, and I have to say, I like the idea of seeing million-dollar level questions.
That's a good enough reason to have the tournament for me.

You are correct. I had "Bobby" in my head when I was searching YouTube, and failed to notice the caption right on the video. I've corrected my original post.
Thanks!

Elephants. Got him a mention in the musical 'Phantom of the Opera' (the 'Hannibal' opera scenes from the beginning of Act One).
Not unlike Ulysses' avatar (at time of writing).
Still, that struck me as a rather odd choice for a $100 question...

This couldn't have been him.
The ToT taped the last week of September.

No argument here.
My question is, if good looks and good storylines aren't enough to keep you on the air nowadays, what is? (Being owned by Disney doesn't count.)
That's the story of major TV networks today. They have no patience for allowing a freshman or sophmore (first or second season) show to find its audience and mature, as 'Dollhouse' was right on the verge of doing (critics reportedly loved the episode that aired right before the November hiatus).
Either that, or the networks just want more money, and want to spend less of it. (The reason behind the demise of 'Million Dollar Password' with Regis - averaged ten million viewers overall each week, but only a low percentage of those viewers were in the 18-49 'advertisers demographic' that the networks like so much. Other network heads would sell their souls for 10 million viewers a week.)
Shame that we keep getting llamas instead of Millionaires. You think you know enough to reach that first safe haven, and suddenly the writers pull one out of their hats and save money at your expense.
I must admit, since 'Millionaire' only airs twice where I live now - once while I'm at work, and once in late night - I usually skip watching it and get the Transcript from here instead, since the Transcripts are up long before the late night airing, then watch the clip on YouTube if something really big happens.
Does anyone else sometimes do that?

Oh, look... another contractually-obligated Disney question. 'Buy it today, for a LIMITED TIME ONLY.' Annoying as h--l.

I had a student named Jasmine once. She was black, not yellow. I had no clue on this one either. I would have at least had to ask the audience.

I actually liked when Millionaire took the 5PM hour in Chicago because it didn't interfere with any routines that I had and the new one was always an hour before my night class so I always knew to turn it on. Now at 1PM, sometimes I have a late night if the night class goes long or with late night homework (thats my story and I'm sticking to it) or whatever and I sleep late, so by the time I'm done with my "morning" routine and realizing what time it is, I either catch the last 3 minutes of the first one or only half of the rerun.

The South Carolina state flower
Yellow Jessamine
Officially adopted by the General Assembly on February 1, 1924, for the following reasons: it is indigenous to every nook and corner of the State; it is the first premonitor of coming Spring; its fragrance greets us first in the woodland and its delicate flower suggests the pureness of gold; its perpetual return out of the dead Winter suggests the lesson of constancy in, loyalty to and patriotism in the service of the State. "No flower that blooms holds such perfume, As kindness and sympathy won. Wherever there grows the sheltering pine Is clinging a Yellow Jessamine vine." From "Legend of the Yellow Jessamine," by Mrs. Teresa Strickland of Anderson, South Carolina, when the flower was made the emblem of Dixie Chapter, U.D.C., about 1906. The "Carolina or Yellow Jessamine" is defined by the New International Encyclopedia as "A climbing plant which grows upon trees and fences and bears a profusion of yellow, funnel-shaped flowers an inch in diameter, with a fragrance similar to that of the true Jasmine." Its odor on a damp evening or morning fills the atmosphere with a rare and delicate sweetness.
