Tim Janus
New York, NY
Competitive Eater

Tim Janus was in the hot seat a few weeks ago, he walked away from a $250,000 question that it turns out he knew. Tim has said that if he thinks he knows the answer this time, he's going for it. ("I don't want to regret passing on a question like I already do.") Tim claims to not be nervous, but he stammers a bit in doing so... :-)

Tim has 3min16sec of think time for this question.

$1,000,000
Who once wrote, "'Bartlett's Familiar Quotations' is an admirable work," a quotation now listed in "Bartlett's Familiar Quotations"?
A: Truman Capote B: John Lennon
C: Winston Churchill D: Mark Twain

I recommend the Youtube video, there is a funny banter moment that I don't want to butcher by trying to capture it in print...
YouTube clip
Tim has no clue. He has a random guess (either
Spoiler
Truman Capote
or
Spoiler
Winston Churchill
) but he doesn't want to risk his winnings.

Tim decides to walk away with $100,000.

When pressured to make a "for the fun of it" guess, Tim says
Spoiler
Churchill
.
Spoiler
C: Winston Churchill (1:19)

From the comfort of my recliner I was able to reason out the answer to this one. I focused on the word "admirable" and for some reason that seemed to be a word more likely to be used by Churchill than the others. In the HS, however, with nothing more than that to go on, I'd probably have walked away.

Subconsciously remembering that Churchill was First Lord of the Admiralty during WWI and again during WWII before becoming Prime Minister, perhaps?

I was torn between Churchill and Twain. I suppose Twain could have come up with a wittier quote.

This is the first one I didn't know cold. I would have reasoned-out Churchill but probably wouldn't have gone for it.

Yeah, that word "admirable" just screams out Churchill... although Twain was very tempting to pick.

6/6 for me now.

I was stuck between Twain and Churchill...knew it was neither Lennon nor Capote.

The Q:

I had no real clue. It sounded like something Churchill might have said, but it also sounded like Lennon doing a Churchillian parody.

And it might have been anyone else entirely.

I'd have walked too.
