The episode begins with a replay of Sam Murray's correct million dollar answer last week. Meredith points out the big winners that we'll see throughout the week, and then emphasize that Jehan, on Friday, will be the only player who actually control her own destiny, i.e. she can guarantee herself a million dollars if she gets her question right.

OK, I don't know this one. My instinct would have been to go with Tarkenton, but not with enough confidence to answer without a lifeline. This doesn't look like a good ATA, so let's use PAF.

I would never had chosen an answer here without lifelines. Had I been forced to guess, though, I would have been right. I would also have had no idea how I had reasoned this out correctly. Is he more devout than the others? Were his active playing days in the right era? Have I actually heard this piece of trivia before? Dunno. He just seemed the most likely of the choices to have come up with the phrase.

Here was my reasoning: Johnny U was retired by then. Joe Namath was past his prime and maybe retired (it turned out he played with the Jets until 1976). It would have been late in Fran Tarkenton's career but not possible to rule him out. I was pretty sure it had to be one of Roger's comebacks.

If I have the right game, Tarkenton would have been the opposing QB in the same game (a playoff game that Staubach threw a late TD pass to Drew Pearson to beat the Vikings). So he would be the toughest distractor they could come up with.

When this question came up, I think I heard a shoe go through a TV somewhere in the Dakotas...

A hint for all of you who might be wondering why you knew or had an inkling on this one...

Hail Mary my ass. It was and always will be offensive pass interference. Period. I have proof, just ask Fishie. Two saying it makes it so. :D
