Robin Schwartz
Tournament of Ten
We see a replay of Robin's $50,000 question. Meredith comments that what she remembers most about that moment was that Robin was in shock that she had made it to $50,000. Robin doesn't think that it's sunk in yet that she's won that much money. She can't imagine dealing with money like that. Robin is unemployed.
Right now, because she doesn't have a family to support, Robin says that she can probably be a little more risky in this tournament.
Robin will have a total of 3 minutes and 35 seconds on this question.
$1,000,000
Who delivered the less famous two-hour speech that preceded Abraham Lincoln's two-minute Gettysburg Address?
A: Wendell Phillips B: Daniel Webster
C: Robert G. Ingersoll D: Edward Everett
Robin says history is not one of her strong points. She's familiar with some of the names. Daniel Webster is standing out in her mind, but she has no idea why. She doesn't even know some of the others. She thought if she had a idea, she'd go for it. She thought this would be easier, but it's not. Robin decides to walk away with her original $50,000.
D: Edward Everett ( 1:05 )
Sam Murray remains as the tournament leader. Tomorrow, Ralph Cambeis #6 gets his chance.

This is the first ToT Q I've actually known the answer to.
I think I read this way back when I was a kid. It's amazing how some obscure facts just stick in my head-now if only I could get J! to call me.

A rare million dollar question that I know the answer to (I knew more of the ones from the prime time show).
And Webster is easy to eliminate, since he died in 1852. If he had given a two hour speech in 1863, that would have been memorable.

I was pretty sure he was pushing up daisies by then but did not know when he died. I eliminated him but did not know which of the others. I was wondering if she would take the plunge. Still hoping nobody loses then finds out they would have only stayed put had they gotten it right.

Wow--I hadn't thought about that. That would REALLY suck.
I just don't like the idea behind this tournament. Don't like it one bit.

We finally get a Million Dollar Question that I actually know. With no hesitation, double checking/guessing etc. I was beginning to think there wasn't one out there.

And of course the reason Mr. Right Answer sticks in my head is not only descriptions I've read which say that he was considered to be a great orator & the "prime act" of the day, the one the crowd came to hear, etc etc, but because a descendant of his (at least I was always lead to believe that!), with his name as their 1st & middle names is an orator known to me from their voice on
Fractured Fairy Tales, as well as other segments, & characters on Rocky The Flying Squirrel.

I agree that as a tournament, this sucks.
If they let the contestants ring in fastest J! style....nah. Too close to J! if done that way.

As well as
F-Troop and countless hollywood classics, especially Trouble In Paradise.

If you know that Webster died in 1852 (unlike this woman for whom "history wasn't her strongest suit"), then you probably have a pretty good idea what the correct answer is anyway.

Agreed - the easiest question so far.

First one I have known with any confidence but it is a pretty classic Q in the trivia world.
Everett to me was perhaps best known for being one of the few people who immediately recognized Lincoln's address, which got little response at the time it was given, as a superior address to his own and of course has come to be one of the most highly regarded speeches in American history.

Make it 4-for-4 for me. With Webster out (because he died long before the Gettysburg Address), Everett was the only other reasonable answer up there.
(Hee hee... I just realized that I pronounced "for" 4 times consecutively and it's still a logical sentence.)

I like making sentences like this.
"I went to two movies today."
"I went to two too!"

I used to own a baseball cap...
it was scarlet in color...
and emblazoned with the logo of a well-known Linux distribution. (well known among computer nerds, at least...)
Pointing it out never got old:
"check out my red RedHat hat!"

I wouldn't even bother to waste time - I don't know this and there's no way I'm going to come up with the answer no matter how long I sat in the HS.

Today is the 146th anniversary of the Gettysburg Address.
