Today we have a rare occurrence for the LS, 10 #1 songs and just for fun, one #2 song. And today we have one of the great transition years in Rock ‘n’ Roll, when vocal-based groups were invaded by guitar-based groups. When the American artists started giving way to the British Invasion artists. And it was the beginning of the end for Tin Pan Alley, it’s 1964.

LS #17…………………………….1964

Good Luck & Have Fun!

1. When she was just a kid
Her clothes were
Hand me down
(Hand me down)
They always laughed at her
When she came into town

2. Well, I've got one
Foot on the platform
The other foot on the train
I'm going back to New Orleans
To wear that ball and chain

3. None of the guys go steady
Cause it wouldn't be right
To leave their best girl home
Now on Saturday night

4. I'm so glad that
She's my little girl
She's so glad, she's
Telling all the world
That her baby buys
Her things, you know
He buys her diamond rings
You know, she said so

5. If I had it in my power
Id arrange for every girl to have your charms
Then every minute, every hour
Everybody would find what I found in your arms

6. Bells will ring
The sun will shine, whoa, oh, oh
I'll be his and he'll be mine
We'll love until the end of time
And we'll never be lonely anymore
Because we're

7. Well, I`m hers (I`m hers)
She`s mine (she`s mine)
I`m hers, she`s mine
Wedding bells are gonna chime

8. As a matter of opinion I think hes tops
My opinion is hes the cream of the crop
As a matter of taste to be exact
Hes my ideal as a matter of fact

9. Just listen to the rhythm
Of a gentle bossa nova
You'll be dancing with him too
Before the night is over
Happy again

10. Cause I need you
I`ll treat you right
Come with me, baby
Be mine tonight

Bonus: Well, where oh where can my baby be?
The Lord took her away from me.
Shes gone to heaven, so I got to be good,
so I can see my baby when I leave this world.

Beginning of the end for the 4 Seasons with The Beatles and the rest of the British Invasion.

2. Well, I've got one
Foot on the platform
The other foot on the train
I'm going back to New Orleans
To wear that ball and chain
#1 House of the Rising Son – The Animals

And here they come and of course it’s a cover of an American blues/folk song.

3. None of the guys go steady
Cause it wouldn't be right
To leave their best girl home
Now on Saturday night
#1 I Get Around – The Beach Boys

Ah, but The Beach Boys give it right back to the Brits.

4. I'm so glad that
She's my little girl
She's so glad, she's
Telling all the world
That her baby buys
Her things, you know
He buys her diamond rings
You know, she said so
#1 I Feel Fine – The Beatles

The first known use of intentional feedback? Well that’s what They say, and you They are never wrong.

5. If I had it in my power
I’d arrange for every girl to have your charms
Then every minute, every hour
Everybody would find what I found in your arms
#1 Everybody Loves Somebody Sometime – Dean Martin

And hey, don’t count out the old guard, they can still put fannys in the seats, and 45’s up the charts.

6. Bells will ring
The sun will shine, whoa, oh, oh
I'll be his and he'll be mine
We'll love until the end of time
And we'll never be lonely anymore
Because we're
#1 Going to the Chapel – The Dixie Cups

More Americans fighting the British! How in the world did they get away with calling themselves The Dixie Cups?

7. Well, I`m hers (I`m hers)
She`s mine (she`s mine)
I`m hers, she`s mine
Wedding bells are gonna chime
#1 Do Wah Diddy Diddy– Manfred Mann

And here come the Brits back with another American tune, hmm.

8. As a matter of opinion I think he’s tops
My opinion is hes the cream of the crop
As a matter of taste to be exact
Hes my ideal as a matter of fact
#1 My Guy – Mary Wells

Well Young America isn’t gonna let the British come dominate America without a fight. The question to the answer song My Girl, both were written by Smokey.

9. Just listen to the rhythm
Of a gentle bossa nova
You'll be dancing with him too
Before the night is over
Happy again
#1 Downtown – Petula Clark

One of the first songs that I can remember as a child. So good that it was featured on Seinfeld.

10. Cause I need you
I`ll treat you right
Come with me, baby
Be mine tonight
#1 Oh, Pretty Woman – Roy Orbison

Another last gasp, it would take Roy about another 25 years to make a comeback.

Bonus: Well, where oh where can my baby be?
The Lord took her away from me.
Shes gone to heaven, so I got to be good,
so I can see my baby when I leave this world.
#2 Last Kiss – J. Frank Wilson & The Cavaliers

The only #2 for this LS, I included this one for it’s morbid subject matter. How was this ever a hit? The songs depressing and the singer has the name of what sounds like an accountant or lawyer…J. Frank Wilson, attorney at law. Amazingly Pearl Jam's version also went to #2, 35 years later, their highest charting single.
