I was flipping radio stations earlier today and to my horror, I heard Bono singing "It's Christmas Baby Please Come Home".
The calendar says November 12th. There is no snow anywhere. In fact, the leaves are still falling. It'w WAY too early for Christmas music- but apparently one of our local stations doesn't think so.
So far, no holiday tunes at the stores around here-although they've got trees up and decorated.

RadioDude is taking a poll -- E-mail the station with your preference on how much Christmas music is too much.
i'm going to E-mail that it should start on Black Friday and that it should be 50/50 through Dec. 23 and all day Dec. 24 and Dec. 25.
And they should alternate between the Eartha Kitt and Madonna versions of Santa Baby.

I support that motion x1000.
93.9 (Chicago) has started airing xmas music online and soon they will start airing it on the regular radio. I liked it when they waited until Black Friday and kept going until Dec 26th. But 2 weeks before Thanksgiving???? Come on!

The Christmas stuff shows up in the stores before the Halloween stuff now. I've been hearing tunes for a couple of weeks and this week started seeing decorations in people's yards. ARGGHHH!!!!
NOTHING before Thanksgiving. EVER!

I don't begrudge people who start putting up their outdoor decorations before Thanksgiving. (After all, weather can be unpredictable, so if a nice day comes along, they might as well take advantage of the chance to work outside.) I just don't want to see the lights turned on before Thanksgiving!

I think it should be a alternation between Eartha Kitt's Santa Baby and Madonna's American Pie.

You know..... I'm one of the biggest holiday scrooges on this Bored, and everyone is well aware of exactly what I think of Christmas muzak.......
BUT.....
The holiday season now begins bright and early November 1st, folks. It'd been leading up to that for a while now, and pretty much became all but official a few years ago. Just about every store (including ours) runs mini-Black Friday sales every weekend after Halloween now. It's just a fact of life.....
Deal with it!

It is dreadful compared to Madonna's, so says this child of the 80's.....

I'll try to deal with it by staying out of stores until January.

Gotta say I hate this song no matter who is singing it. The idea of seductively singing to Santa is just so...ick.

I'm not talking about when the earlybirds put out their Christmas stuff. My second year at Mecca, we had a feature of Christmas lights out in the middle of July....
I mean the holiday season that once traditionally started after Thanksgiving now begins after Halloween. The retail world has been pushing it for years and it's finally become "accepted" in our culture that it is so....

Just make sure you're wearing clothes during the video. And don't make it so icky.

I saw my first Salvation Army bell ringer outside the grocery store on Tuesday. It's going to be a long 7 weeks.... At least they will have canned the exuberance by Thanksgiving and just lean against the wall and give a half hearted shake every now and then. Ha!

I left a donation in one of their kettles last year. I'm not sure if it was tax deductible, but I hope they used it to help grow some food for those lazy no-good bums.....

Our Salvation Army workers start the week of Thanksgiving. Back in the day of soaring real estate prices, there would often be $50 or $100 bills in the pots. Now, not so much.
